I have pencil stools that are getting narrower
Hello, I have noticed about 6 months ago that my stool is narrower, about 3/4". I told my PCP and he referred me to a gastroenterology. I will be having a colonoscopy on March 3rd. During my wait, I'm noticing that the stool has reduced to 1/2". I also do have external hemorrhoids. I'm scared. What can I expect to be the outcome.

@graybeard46 I suspect it would take you more than 3 weeks to find and get in to see another doctor. But if you haven't reported this to your current doctor, I certainly would, and ask if they can/should prescribe something for the diarrhea. So sorry you're going through it and 3 wks seems like forever, but I would be it will be faster than going elsewhere, unless you don't trust the current doc.

Three weeks is a long time, but a different doctor might not be faster. Ask if they have a cancelation that you would like to be seen earlier. But you need to be ready if they do call. You will have your prep day for the colonoscopy. Do you have your drink mix yet. If not I would ask the doctors office if they supply it or will you have to pick it up. That way you will be ready.
You know the waiting is the hardest part and I and other's feel for you and some are saying prayers for you. I still work so keeping busy helps . If you don't work try to not isolate yourself, get out a little. I kept telling myself that no matter how much I worried it would not change anything. If your health permits, find something to do that helps other's. My thoughts were if these are my last days how do I want to spend them. I felt like a different person because I didn't know the outcome. The things that were important didn't seem that important any more. I became a better person before my surgery. This time the outcome was good and I slipped back to my old ways. Now I'm on the beginning of prostate test. Will I become a good person again ? Am I worrying again, you bet. I cannot change one thing worrying, but I do it anyway. Now I need to be a good person again and go help other's.
Let us know how things are going and if you do get in sooner. Take care and write when you can.

I so glad you got in early. I forgot to ask if you have diverticulitis. My father did and he experienced bleeding.
I had an incident with bleeding, enough that they sent me on a 2 hour ambulance ride to Idaho Falls. They checked me out and sent me home.
The clinic I went to was afraid I could hemorage if I tried to drive myself.
I learned that bleeding was not always a big deal. That trip made my bank account bleed.
For now we wait for lab results. Let us know when you can. Take care 🙂

1 Reaction@lockmith yes you are correct I was told I have medium divaticulitis which I never knew so hopefully that caused the bleeding, I have a friend who today told me what he went thru with colon cancer 9 months of hell and carrying a bag for six months plus chemo, time to go back to church
When I woke up from surgery the first thing I checked was for an ostomy bag. My cancer was high enough in that I didn't need one. I read alot about them and the nurse before surgery educated me and they mark circles on the stomach where the bag could be placed. I stressed alot about how I would work and sleep. I feel for your friend who had to go through it. I found a co worker who has a permanent bag due to an injury in the service. I never knew, I always wondered why he didn't tuck his shirt in, now I know.
You take care and thanks for writing.
