Gross hematuria (blood in urine): Can't find cause

Posted by carolak @carolak, May 13, 2024

I’ve been having gross hematuria for the last 20 days. Very bright red I’ve had blood tests and CT scans,
There is no infection and the scan show nothing. Urologist seems baffled.
There has been significant amount of blood and some clotting nearly everytime pass urine.
Has anyone had this happen?
My red counts are low ( due to blood loss)

I just went through this. Crazy, we all thought it was urinary but after being in menopause for quite a while, it turned out it was my uterus. I had it removed 2 weeks ago after 4 months of bleeding.

I have always had microscopic blood in urine, or at least for about 9 years, I thought this was the same and at first we assumed it from my urine track because it was on and off and more off by the time I got to the doctor each time. Then it became really heavy and I went to the ER and that was when we figured out it was the uterus.

Funny story though, Tuesday I started bleeding again on top of recovering from the hysterectomy. This time it was a kidney stone. My body just wants to bleed I think…

Our daughter who is 55 has been dealing with microscopic blood in urine, they checked her kidneys and did Cystoscope of bladder and all was clear. Even today before Cystoscope there was trace microscopic blood in urine. She said this has been going on for around 20 years always microscopic blood in UA, Had things checked out more just to make sure not cancer. Doctors are telling her , it must be her normal. Anyway she is going to stop worrying about it and finish her last few months of APRN school. She has been a RN for years and decided to go back to school. She should know more than me, but sounds odd.
