I have ET with JAK2. My doc told it me means its a gene mutation...but not inherited or that you cannot pass it on to your children (if you have any). That is the reason for the ET diagnosis. I didn't not have a biopsy since it would just confirm the JAK2.

essential thrombocythemia (ET) can sometimes be diagnosed without a bone marrow biopsy if a driver mutation like JAK2 is present, along with other clinical features. However, a bone marrow biopsy is typically recommended for a conclusive diagnosis, especially to rule out other conditions. My father had elevated platelets, but long ago they didn't know about ET and how to control it. I believe he had ET, as doctors didn't know why he had elevated platelets back then.
