Bowel or fecal incontinence and how to manage it
I am 73 yr old femal with diagnosed Celiac, Microscopic Colitis and IBS. i don’t have diarrhea, BM’s are either soft formed or constipated small hard stool, but either way I can be incontenant of small amount of stool. I wear a pad in close knit underwear with legs, so nothing can escape. Any advice from people with same problem would be comforting and useful. I would like to know how you handled it on social occasions.
Thank you, Emyliander

@donnagail good luck! Wish I could be out on the slopes with you. My skiing days are over since this wretched neuropathy pain ended just about everything physically. At 78 I am glad for all the heat ski seasons I was able to enjoy.

1 Reaction@emyliander The strictures in rectum may not be working well.A gastro.can measure the reflexes.I had this done while under sedation when having a colonoscopy.I was then referred to a colorectal surgeon who referred me to a pelvic floor physiotherapist.I hope that this is a help to you.

1 ReactionI have MC and am very socialable. Its been tough to be with friends, mostly in the mornings. I have to take a short walk and make sure I have evacuated prior to leaving the house. I live with diarrhea and it has weakened my sphincter muscle. I have an appt April 15th with a new GI that uses techniques to tighten. Can't tell you if that works yet. I keep a toiletry bag everywhere I go with wet wipes, ziplock bags, underwear and change of clothing. If I am in the car and can't make it to a restroom, I oull over and use a waste bag also known as WAG bags and get in the back seat. I had to use them when backpacking in some of the national parks because some require you carry your poo out. I carry a bag in my toiletries. I keep a toiletry bag in each car at all times..

6 Reactions@donnagail It's a crying shame that they make you wait two months for an appointment. Your problem is not just a routine exam. It should be possible to have some sort of triage system to evaluate a person's need and get them seen faster. Hope you can find some help... seriously!

1 Reaction@heisenberg34 Thank you. I actually had to wait until March but would be out of town for the March dates. New physicians often take a couple months to get in the door.
Hello Emyliander-I also have fecal incontinence and was advised by my gastroenterologist that the strictures in back passage are very loose.I was advised to see a colorectal surgeon and she referred me to a pelvic floor phisio.who taught me pelvic floor exercises. Those exercises are a help.and I also find that eating small meals are a great help.

2 Reactions@cardigan Sorry for the full stops there-don't know what happened!
Oh goodness. I thought I was the only person that has this. It is so annoying! I have to wear a pad every single day, which causes irritation.
