As you have all posted in Mayo Connect's Mental Health Group, I wanted to invite you to join in a program by Dr. Amit Sood, entitled Happiness a One Week Journey. Probably many of you are familiar with Dr. Amit Sood, a psychiatrist at Mayo. This is a free online program that addresses the issue of happiness. Here is what Dr. Sood says about this program.

Dear friends,

You and I face one common enemy – suffering. Pain, physical or emotional, when it becomes unbearable, is experienced as suffering. Pain is unavoidable, but suffering is optional. My goal is to help you find a path so you can bypass suffering in this life. One reward of traversing that journey is finding greater happiness.

Happiness is a habit. Some of us are innately happy. But most others have to choose. We often, however, don’t realize we have that choice. We also don’t know how to exercise that choice. As a result, we push happiness away. Let that not happen to you.

Join me, if you wish, to spend the next week of your life, choosing greater happiness. Each day, you’ll be guided to a practice that can make you happier. To enroll, you’ll need to register with your name and email address to connect with us for the next week. Select ‘Happiness: A One Week Journey,’ below for more information.

Take care.
Amit

@hopeful33250 Thanks Teresa, that's a good question, it never occurred to me but I cannot imagine why it would be a problem at this point post-transplant (I am 7.5 months now) since I do not seem to have any other physical restrictions. Before I do get one though I will check, just in case.

@contentandwell Good idea. I've known people with cancer treatments who have been advised about massages for a certain period of time, but I've never known anyone personally who had a transplant. Teresa

@hopeful33250, I had to pull out my "Going Home with Your Transplant" binder for this question. I did not find any reference to massages. I have to agree with @contentandwell about checking with her doctor.
As additional information, I have learned that when I ask my PCP questions, he will often refer me to discuss it with my transplant team.

@hopeful33250 @rosemarya Hi Rosemary and Teresa, I sent a message on the portal to the surgeon. Those are generally actually answered by the nurse and unless she considers it to be important in her opinion she will wait to answer it so I have not heard back. I figure though that if it was something I should not get she would get back to me in a more timely manner so I plan to make an appointment for one tomorrow. I need to use this G/C so that my husband or son will get me another one for Mother's Day! Actually I hope my son give me what I asked him for, for him to sign up as an organ donor. I think young people like him tend to think there's no rush because they're young, strong and healthy, and also they just do not want to consider that accidents do happen. His "girlfriend" (what do you call them when they're in their 30s?) is a nurse at UCLA medical center and prior to that was a traveling nurse so she has worked in all of the departments, including post-transplant, so maybe she will encourage him.
On a little aside, she sent me a mother's day postcard with a baby picture of my son on the front, thanking me for bringing him into the world. She is very sweet, must be her southern roots.

@hopeful33250 Teresa, she does sound like a lovely young woman, I am dying to meet her. I have been pretty happy with most of the people my son and daughter associated with, even his ex-wife of three years. She was really nice, even was praying for me prior to transplant, but my husband and I always felt they were not well matched, and apparently we were right.
