As you have all posted in Mayo Connect's Mental Health Group, I wanted to invite you to join in a program by Dr. Amit Sood, entitled Happiness a One Week Journey. Probably many of you are familiar with Dr. Amit Sood, a psychiatrist at Mayo. This is a free online program that addresses the issue of happiness. Here is what Dr. Sood says about this program.

Dear friends,

You and I face one common enemy – suffering. Pain, physical or emotional, when it becomes unbearable, is experienced as suffering. Pain is unavoidable, but suffering is optional. My goal is to help you find a path so you can bypass suffering in this life. One reward of traversing that journey is finding greater happiness.

Happiness is a habit. Some of us are innately happy. But most others have to choose. We often, however, don’t realize we have that choice. We also don’t know how to exercise that choice. As a result, we push happiness away. Let that not happen to you.

Join me, if you wish, to spend the next week of your life, choosing greater happiness. Each day, you’ll be guided to a practice that can make you happier. To enroll, you’ll need to register with your name and email address to connect with us for the next week. Select ‘Happiness: A One Week Journey,’ below for more information.

Take care.
Amit

Thank you. OK I'm in. Yesterday I did try to get screened to be living donor for kidney. Thought it would be good for gratitude to give kidney. But they would not accept me because of type 2 diabetes history. Even if not on meds. And even if not currently diabetic. Bummer. But I will sign up for this to see what doc has to say.

@contentandwell Good things happened with incentives and that is what's important. It is too bad that more incentives aren't offered today for blood donors and organ donors. Teresa

Teresa- it's JJames, do you know about the sleeping issues of the morning time. every morning I can't move very well with the Parkinson's and it hurts to force myself to get up- and I can give my self permission to sleep- I'm at a lost- I know my DR said that will happen as the stages process( I'm already in stage 3- because of the agent orange- so they say? I know and cam feel my body changing at a rapid pace and the side affect show up more often- as again I have been told by the VA Parkinson's DR- the chemicals would speed up the process. Love to hear you wisdom and advice. JJAMES>

@contentandwell. You are lucky. Our friends that we met during our month in Panama, were in a similar situation. Anne was in her early 70s and had just gotten home from the hospital after nearly dying. Her husband, Ken was 82 and did everything since she was confined to a wheelchair. He was the picture of health and looked and acted much younger than his age. We returned from Panama last September. We learned 1 month ago that Ken passed away suddenly 2 weeks after surgery to put a stent in his heart.

Make sure you let your husband know how much he means to you. Everyone thought Ken would outlive Anne. Sadly that wasn't true. I know you let your husband know he's wonderful which is great.

@windwalker

Foot massage sounds like torture! I don't want anyone to touch my feet, thanks to peripheral neuropathy, but I hope that when I get the spinal cord stimulator implant, all of that will change.

@ihatediabetes That is a good plan. Thanks for sharing Mayo's time line for blood donation. Teresa

@gailb Poor Anne, this must have been such a shock for her. Heart problems do not seem to run in my husband's family thankfully, most live to be quite old, but in my family I have already outlived the ages my parents and most of my aunts and uncles died at, all from heart problems. Thankfully the battery of tests I have been through show my heart as doing well.

@hopeful33250 @windwalker I googled, there are some very close by. I think though I still would prefer a full body massage, so relaxing. I have a G/C for one at a place I like, the G/C is a couple of years old because I was sort of afraid to go when I was in the condition I was prior to transplant, mainly due to the lactulose.

@contentandwell I'm glad that you posted about massage and transplants. What does your doctor say about the advisability of massages? I'm wondering if there is a specific "wait-period" before a transplant patient should get massages? Rosemary, @rosemarya,what do you know about this? Teresa
