Traveling with the aerobika with or without a nebulizer
I am going away for 3 days. I use the aerobika with a nebulizer with saline once a day (should do it twice, but I am bad). Does anyone just bring the aerobika without the nebulizer when you go away? If so, do you still only bring aerobika if you go away for more than a few days?
Katherine: Want to take this opportunity to send you love, gratitude, and wishes for a swift and uneventful return to good health.

Hi Terry,
I'm tagging @megan123 @lindam272 @david1952 @decosmo and @maryjo2sell on this new discussion to see if they have any insights about traveling with the aerobika with or without the nebulizer.
Safe travels, Terry. What other things do you consider when traveling?
Terry,
I always take both. I rarely use the aerobika without the nebulizer first as the nebulizer thins the mucous so the aerobika can get the mucous that is deeper in our lungs. That's my understanding at least. I have a note from my doctor that allows me to carry my breathing equipment on the plane as an extra bag. Here is a post from Katherine that I copied that might be helpful to you if you're looking for a smaller nebulizer for travel. Linda

@maryjo2sell, Mary Jo, in checking my File Cabinet I found the below from when I was using a nebulizer for inhaled Amikacin. The daily Pari really wasn't that bad .. but if you look at the link for the Pari I had for travel .. it really is small. I found both very usable .. and what saved my life was a hint I got which was to purchase a baby bottle sterilizer .. purchase extra nebulizer parts( where you breathe from) .. then I only had to clean the parts daily .. toss them into the sterilizer until I sterilized them weekly. It made the cleaning process much more bearable! Hope this is helpful! Hugs! Katherine

Haven't used a mask yet but purchased the Cambridge (hope that's the name) recommended by this forum. Have Airborne and Halo with me on plane. This is my first travel (only a few days) so haven't had time to contemplate. Please see lindam272 for pertinent info from beloved Katherine. Posted right after this one.
Wishing once again Katherine all good wishes for recovery and health.

I have dry bronchioectasis and NTM. For now am using just the aerobika. Tk it with me
Wherever I go. Don't use a nebulizer yet, but maybe I should be using one....
How often do you use the aerobika? How often do you clean and disinfect? What method(s) do you use to clean or disinfect? Wondering if it is an absolute necessity to use distilled water.
Thanks for all the help,
Terry
Terry,
I have A-typical cystic fibrosis along with bronchiectasis and MAC so I had a lot of mucous. It has cut down considerably since I started the MAC meds. I used to do a breathing treatment 2xday, but since about 3 months into my meds, I cut down to 1xday in the morning unless I feel I need a second one later in the day. I use a baby bottle sterilizer to sterilize my equipment every day. I soak everything in warm water for awhile, agitate, rinse and sterilize. I only sterilize the aerobika once a week. I wash the mouthpiece every day and sterilize with the rest of my breathing equipment, but the unit itself, I wash and sterilize every Sunday. I used to use distilled water but I don't anymore. Don't take what I do as gospel, because I don't know that I'm doing it "right." It works for me and I'm comfortable with it so that's what I'm doing. I struggled a lot in the beginning boiling water to sterilize, sometimes forgetting it was on the stove (yikes!) and then talked to my respiratory therapist the first time I was going away for a few days and she put me on to the sterilizer. They have packets you can microwave your equipment in as well so it's easy to carry with you when you travel. You can find it all on Amazon. Best, Linda
Terry,
Realized I missed a question - I use the aerobika every day right after my nebulizer. Linda
Hi Terry. Mary Jo here. I have spoken with a rep from Aerobika. She advised me to use distilled water to clean. I ordered the product when it first came out and had some problems. The rep was very nice and sent me a new Aerobika that has always worked.
My question to you- what is a Cambridge? You commebted that you traveled with it. Hadnt heard of that before.
Fondly, MJo
Hi, Mary Jo, Stepping in as I ordered one as well per Katherine's post a while back. Here is the link on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01G7AJ67Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The only thing about this for me is that it makes my ears stick out like Dumbo. I'm sure there's a way to fix it, but haven't had a chance to figure it out yet. Linda
