Anyone have late effects of chemo? Watery eyes & blurry vision

Posted by katieliz @katieliz, Jan 21 2:23pm

Question for my friends here. I had 12 cycles of Fulfirinox last year, finished one month ago, December 19. And had watery eyes intermittently (due to the Irinotecan).
Has anyone had this hang on or pop up after ending chemo? The past 2 days my eyes have been very watery and blurry, making it difficult to read small print. All vision, near and far is just a bit affected.
Just wanting to see if this is to be expected, or unusual. Thanks!

Haven’t gotten any responses to my post above, oh well. Another question, kind of related, is it known how long side effects of chemo may continue or pop up after you are no longer getting it? Besides the watery eyes - happening infrequently but still, maybe once a week - during chemo I got little bumps, kind of like blisters, on my hands, here and there, maybe 4-5 in different places. No pain, they just appeared on/off, would be raised, then fade away as treatment progressed. Now - received last chemo 6 weeks ago - got one more little bump after none recently. Hard to know things chemo might still be causing even when done with treatment.

@katieliz, it does sometimes happen that chemo will cause late side effects. Often watery eyes are a sign of dry eyes - I know this seems counterintuitive. Having dry eyes can cause watering and blurred vision. An eye specialist can confirm if your issue is dry eyes and prescribed eye drops.

Have you seen an opthamologist about your eyes?

@colleenyoung I had a general vision check up last November. Nothing unusual was noted. Maybe I should make another appt?

@katieliz
I am currently doing Naliri. On the second day my eyes become watery and a bit blurry. It subsides the next day. However, during the time I have been on and off chemo for the past 4 years, my eyes have become much more sensitive. They run inside certain stores and buildings, some eye make up causes sty’s, etc. warm compresses and clear eye drops are necessary to keep me from looking like the result of some late nite partying!!!

My wife had 9 infusions of chemo and started having blurry vision, near and far, with the last couple of treatments. Is very inconsistent.
Sometimes only 1 eye most days both and degree imparment changes throughout the day
That was 6 weeks since last chemo.
Eye drops don't seem to help. Just hoping as chemo clears the system eyesight will return to normal.

Thank you, sounds a lot like what I’ve been having, also changes during the day. Then it’s not there at all some days but then it pops up. Not a horrible side effect, just trying to make sense of it all. Even with chemo done, it can cause after effects, obviously.
Hope overall your wife is doing good!

@katieliz I've got the watery eyes. Have been off Gemcitibine/Abraxane for about 5 months. My opthalmologist said a few months ago I had "dry eye" so I use the drops he prescribred twice a day. Don't have any idea what triggers it. Just occurs at random.
