Posted by lovecats2025 @lovecats2025, Oct 21, 2025

I'm having a biopsy next week. Already had an ultrasound done. What is the percentage its cancerous. Anyone have similar results? If so what was the outcome?

Heterogeneous, hypoechoic solid nodule with mildly irregular margins
within the mid pole with punctate internal echogenic foci measures 1.0 x 1.0 x 0.8 cm-TIRADS 5.
TR5: Highly suspicious (at least 7 pts) FNA if nodule at least 1 cm

I am having RAI treatment next week after having a total thyroidectomy in October due to cancer. I think i have to have a pet scan before and after treatment. I am afraid to have my head in a tube. I had claustrophobic reaction to an mri i had done years ago. Will it he the same for a pet scan?

@kathleenmkastrup When I had Pet Scans they said it was from chin to thigh so your head doesn’t have to go all the way in and sit there like during an MRI. I seem to recall going feet first for one of my scans ( I don’t recall if it was PET or some other reason) so my head wasn’t in the tube very far; maybe you can ask if they can scan you feet first.
I don’t get claustrophobic however I found the MRI machine a bit too close. I found that by closing my eyes before I went into the tube made me more comfortable. I only opened my eyes once I was inside, but felt more comfortable just keeping my eyes closed. Maybe you can try keeping your eyes closed before you go into the tunnel and don’t open them at all. Although you know you are in a close space, not seeing it might help you stay calm…… maybe they will let you wear a sleep mask?

Thank you so much! I guess i am just nervous about all of this. I do remember having a pet scan during diagnosis (it is all a blur to me) and went in feet first. Please send good vibes my way

@colleenyoung
“There are two large foci of activity in the central neck with no evidence for distant iodine-avid metastatic disease “

Dr says “this is reassuring. We will now let the radioactive work on ablating the remaining thyroid origin tissue in the neck”

Thank you for checking in. This is a lonely journey for me, one I NEVER dreamed I would be taking
