Suggestions how prepare for 1st Evenity injection prevent side effects
Hi, I have been diagnosed with severe osteoporosis based on 2 Dexa scans. I have had an autoimmune condition, ITP. I will receive my first Evenity shot and would like to decrease possible side effects. Any positive suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

@basslakegirl The choice of an antihistamine doesn't matter. I use Claritin but any of them will do. I tried not using it on my last dose and noticed a difference in how sore my arms were afterwards. I also get itchy after a dose (as others here have also reported) and it seems to help.
I also use Tylenol after my dose. I rarely take any pain relievers except for an occasional ibuprofen. I like ibuprofen for joint pain and Tylenol for the sore arms I get after a dose.
Good luck with your first treatment.
@dianat, I don’t know what gravity3 is taking to lock in her Evenity gains, but my doctor has recommended Reclast for me.

1 Reaction@isabella5 I hate the thought of having to take something for the rest of my life.
I believe by increasing bone density with bone density exercise (yoga, hiking, light weight lifting) and a year’s worth of Evenity my bone density will have increased!

1 Reaction@dianat, I hear you. I hate the idea, too, especially since I’ve never been on any long-term meds. Reclast treatment lasts on average 3-6 years. I just read that it does a good job of protecting bone, so there’s a chance of stopping all bone meds after the treatment, for a while at least. I plan on continuing with natural supplements all through treatments (AlgaeCal, collagen with Fortibone, NAD, and circumen), so I’m hoping for good results! 🙏

May I ask how old you are? Are you taking other drugs?
@isabella5
Prolia but may discontinue with a smaller dose of reclast then who knows.

1 Reaction@gravity3 Hi, I’m 60 and no other drugs. Genetic💜
I can understand why someone who has never had a long term medication would be reluctant to start.
@wili22
What will you take to protect the gains from Evenity?
