This question is actually for my mom . Her blood pressure keeps getting low . The question is what can she take or do at home to get it back up or balanced ?

Heresay is that drinking a lot of water will raise BP; also a little salt might do the trick.

This is tricky and long-term whateveryoudecide may be harmful if there are other conditions that none of us is aware of. IOW, see a doctor, and follow the prescriptions and advice if any are forthcoming.

Low BP may be due to heart failure, valve failure, arrythmia, poor electrolyte balance, too little sodium (although that usually makes a person feel quite ill), dehydration. The thing is...............................................which is it? Then, what should be done for your mum? Will that do something worse? How will you predict it? With what information that is reproducible and veridical?

The long and the short of it is that this needs a physician's assessment and advice....and follow-up. We can make suggestions, but always with the caveat that we don't know what comorbidities your mum is dealing with, her history, her age, her body weight, any endocrine issues,...the list goes on. We can't advise you legally or ethically due to this lack of knowledge.

Thank you for your reply . So yes she has other health problems, which is making this tricky . She has had blood pressure issues for quite some time with also having adrenal issues as well .
She recently came down with RSV , she’s mostly gotten over that , but it has really triggered all of her levels. She has been in and out of the hospital for this and it has also put stress on her heart . I can’t remember what the nurse exactly said but in her heart wasn’t functioning properly.
She was told to follow up with an endocrinologist and cardiologist which she plans to do so. She is home but where she lives , they have been affected by this ice storm and have no power .
So right now it’s kinda hard to go to the doctor . I’m just worried and didn’t know what else to do .
I’m trying to remember all of her medical history but If you have any questions or need to know anything else

Is your mother on any medication’s to lower her blood pressure. If she is, she needs to talk to her doctor because it’s going too low
If she is on many medication’s, you need to check to see if any of them can cause the blood pressure to go low
You need to be a private eye and checking all her meds that means talking to a pharmacist or or and googling them for a side effects
You didn’t say hello it was going
I would get your mother to the doctor as well. Go with her if you can and ask your questions.
Does low blood pressure run in your family? People in my family have attended see for low blood pressure and when it starts to grow up, we know there’s a problem
I wish you the very best and figuring this out

Yes she does take other medications which I know affects her blood pressure. But she is also taking something for her blood pressure. I know she’s going to schedule with the doctor soon. Thank you for your reply .

The important first step is fall prevention and documentation. Does she have an at home automatic
blood pressure device that helps keep a history of readings. Check pulse for regularity as well.
Salt in diet and hydration are only good in seniors
that don’t have heeart failure or kidney issues.Medications often
hypertension drugs are the most common cause.
The first step is to call your her primary and see the cardiologist soon.

My cardiologist told me to add more salt to my diet. That works for me, but I normally have low blood pressure. It’s generally around 90/60 and this was going even lower and making me dizzy. I do know with low blood pressure you need to be careful not to get up too quickly especially if head is down, say like when picking something up off the ground.

Is your mom on any BP medication? Mine was getting too low and my doctor reduced my carvedilol dose by a half. That resolved it.
