Has anyone not had any treatment after non-invasive tumor removed?
My urologist said it’s my choice. Either don’t do the 6 week treatment or not. and check bladder in 3 months. Has anyone else not taken treatment and faired well?

Thank you for your reply.
You understand my query correctly. My urologist did not indicate I was at high risk of reoccurrence. She simply stated she removed the entire tumor and that bladder cancer has a high risk of reoccurrence. Said it was my choice to have BCG treatment right away or wait. With plan to rescope for reoccurrence in 3 months.
I have not seen an oncologist so do not have a cancer team per se.
I did opt to start treatment and had first one last Wed. It was easy and the process was painless. We now understand BCG treatment includes a live bovine TB virus. My wife said she would let the doctor know if I started mooing.
Thank you.

1 ReactionI had the Surgeries....Tumor was Removed, Biopsy Surgery Showed with lab Test,..No Cancer....
I was Suppose to Start the 6 Week Program....I Turned it Down....
My Penis needs a Break, The Catheter thing is NOT GONNA WORK....
The Word here is "Preventive".....
I take a Seizure Pill as a "Preventive"
to Slow down a Possible Seizure, I can agree...."Preventive"..Treatment Once a Week for 6 Weeks is a Preventive Treatment....with Side Effects....
I've had Enough of My Penis as a Gateway for another 6 Weeks of "Preventive Treatment"...Not a Cure...
I WILL DO THE CHECK UPS WITH MY SURGEON,....Thats it.....These Preventive Treatsment are Your Typical Add on.....You go for an Oil Change and they want you to buy Windshield Wipers Also.....
Its another Business Add On....I can live Without that....If The Cancers Returns, I know the Signs and will Jump on it Quickly.....
I CANT DO THE CATHETER THING, AWAKE.... it was the Worst thing I have ever Experienced....😞

3 ReactionsSame situation. Non muscular, slow growing. My urologist did not recommend BCG. Had the 3 month follow up today. He showed me what could be returned tumor or simply continued healing. Due to the non invasive slow growth he recommended checking kidney function and bladder again in three months.

2 ReactionsI faired well until the 3 weeks following after the initial 6 weeks.
Then intolerable bladder spasms with unending urination for 8 days.
So, if you had this experience, what’s next?

I had three tumors removed one of which was sarcoma. It was low grade noninvasive. I had the six week treatment. However mine was cancer. Since yours was not you may be right getting another opinion. Mine did not spread outside the bladder. My most recent scope of my bladder was clean. I am now having a treatment one time a month for 9 months and scopes in between. Then a scope after six months. Then of bladder is cancer free, a scope once a year. Again, I had a cancerous tumor.
The treatments are awful. My poor urethra. I will do whatever it takes. My oncologists are at the James Cancer Hospital at Ohio State University and I have confidence that I am in good hands.
I’m curious that if you were cancer free, why would they want you to have all those treatments. Let me know what you learn?

1 ReactionMy tumors that were
removed were
intermediate stage—two operations, both cancer. I refused BCG the first time, then 6 treatments, a scope showing no tumors, then 3 BCGs. The spasms hit me hard on the third.
My journey is just beginning - TURBT scheduled 2/2, I have they believe high grade non invasive muscle.
I am glad you are on the other side. What can I expect with regard to the spasms? What are you doing for relief or is there no relief? How often to they come and for how long at a time. Thanks in advance.
@quahog Wouls you be so kind as to describe the side effects you encountered? Many thanks
@michzn
The side effects consist of urgency and pain with ruination for the first several hours after instillation. As that subsided flu like symptoms start. Muscle aches, headhead, chills, and fatigue. These persiss for 24 to 48 hours. I have moderate arthritis in my hands and hip and this also seems to be worse over the three or four days after treatment. The symptoms have become progressively worse in intensity and duration with each new treatment. The data however for BCG reducing reoccurrence is very convincing and I’ll suffer the side effects to have this benefit
@colleenyoung Huh. I was sure I had replied to this weeks ago but do not see it now. Yes. you have it right. I have now had 2 of the 6 BCG installments. The first was very smooth. The second also though I then experienced some difficulty with intermittent urination accompanied by minor pain on the second and third day following.
As far as a cancer team... no cancer team involved. Just working with urologist. Is that typical? I figure if a tumor ever reappears then I will get a cancer team involved.
