Tapering off 25 mg of quetiapine/Seroquel
Hi I’ve been taking 25 mg of quetiapine for 5 months and want to go off of it. Can I stop this due to the low dose or do I need to taper off. If so how do I do this since it is already the lowest dose ?

I used to be prescribed a lot of Seroquel, and it made it very difficult for me to get up in the mornings. Sometimes I would sleep all day on the weekend. I worked with my prescriber to slowly taper off of it, and I’m so glad I’m off of Seroquel now. However, your situation is different from mine, and you’ll need to discuss your situation with your prescriber regularly. Sometimes I’ve had to stay on something longer than I’ve wanted to because of the side effects that can happen with tapering off a medication. It’s highly individual, and sometimes now is not the time to come off of something. If you can’t do it now, you might be able to in the future. I encourage you to hold onto hope! If this prescriber isn’t working for you, maybe you can try someone else.

1 ReactionHello @tabby61 and @myself44,
I combined your discussions on tapering off of seroquel into the discussion titled:
"Seroquel tapering & withdrawal - Recommendations please!"
- https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/seroquel-withdrawal-need-some-reassurance-please/
Here you can meet one-another and other members discussing how to properly taper off of seroquel and the experiences members have had doing so.
My psychiatrist used the Prozac bridge to get me off Venlafaxine and I didn't experience any side effects at all. You might want to talk to your psychiatrist about this and seee if it is a viable option. Good luck!
I have been on 25 mg of quetiapine each night for anxiety. Now, it seems to be actually making the problem worse, and I am feeling terrible, to the point of being non-functional, in the mornings. Can I just stop taking it or must I gradually reduce the dosage?

1 ReactionDO NOT just stop taking it. You will have terrible withdrawal symptoms and be miserable!
You have to taper off slowly.
Talk to your doctor about a schedule for getting off of it.
@meryw Thanks!

1 Reaction@dpugh1947 I always recommend you speak with your doctor before making medication changes. But I just wanted to provide some support that 25mg is a pretty low dose, and if you haven’t been taking it very long, it might be pretty painless to come off this medication. Again please do ask your doctor first. Good luck and I’m sorry to hear you are struggling with anxiety. I hope you find some solutions that work better for you soon!

I don't know if this will help you, but there are supplements that really work for anxiety. I am, also, weaning myself off of Seroquel due to the metabolic side effects. My psychiatrist recommended it for insomnia years ago. I believe, it's a terrible drug, and only causes more health issues. Try taking Natrol 5-HTP. It's converted into serotonin in your body and improves mood and anxiety. It can also help you sleep and may help you lose weight. Since I've been using it, I've noticed it suppresses my appetite. That's because it "stimulates" GLP-1 receptors in your body, like a natural "Ozempic", believe it or not. Of course, it depends on your dosage, and whether you take it before meals or not. I've been doing a lot of research on L-Tryptophan also, which does the same thing, but takes longer, because it has to convert to 5-HTP first. You may also want to try the time release version of Natrol 5-HTP. These supplements are really helping me get off of Seroquel; they have been the only thing that have worked for me. I also use Melatonin, when necessary. And, I have no side effects, except they do keep me regular.
