Yes, I currently have a lameller hole occurring in my left eye. The opthamologist feels it was caused by agent orange. I was told by the specialist that he could do surgery, but would not be able to fix the hole so I could see better. New glasses do not help and my eyesight continues to get worse. worried about not being able to see out of my eye.

@harleewine I have them in both eyes, and cataracts. Did retinal surgeon say why he couldn’t operate?

Because of the location of the hole, he didn’t feel that it would help. It is in the center of my eye behind the retina. That was his explanation as best I can remember. He is part of University of Wisconsin.

@harleewine thx
How long ago? Any worsening of your vision?
(My father always said “don’t worry in advance” but I am very worried, bc when I asked ophthalmologist if this can cause blindness, he simply said “yes”.)

I have a lamellar hole in both eyes- one worse than the other. The cause was a vitreous detachment. I was very worried as my vision was definitely worsening and I had wavy vision. I needed to close the worse eye to read with just the eye with the better vision. I was monitored by a retinal specialist every 6 months. He mentioned surgery when I asked and what it entailed. He did not feel I was at a point that I needed it or that it was guaranteed to help. I am happy to say that my vision has improved over my last two visits and he has decreased my checks to yearly. I no longer have to close my R eye to read. Wishing you the best.

I noticed over time my left eye vision has worsened but I am 78 years old and I do not see as well out of that eye. I see three different eye doctors at least once a year. All are keeping track of both eyes. Vision in the left eye is blurry but functional. I keep in mind how my sight is and do chores accordingly,

The hole was first noticed about 4-5 years ago. The diagnosis that the hole was caused by agent orange exposure and took years to start. One of many things that I have been diagnosed with caused by AO. I am much luckier than some of my friends who have died from it’s effects.

@jtrehub thank you so much for your reply. I am so pleased for you. I think I also have vitreous detachment. (Ophthalmologist was vague. ) I hope retinal specialist will give me good news too.
