No sustaining ventricular tachycardia
Hi all, I’ve had stent in LAD, the Watchman all for Afib, now this new diagnosis! Cardio put me on 200 mgs of Amiodarone (couldn’t tolerate) cut down to 100mgs still makes me tired, feeling weak. Hasn’t helped NSVT , I stooped Amiodarone on my own, only other pills are baby aspirin, protonix and vitamins plus magnesium citrate. I’m elderly female still drive and do everything for myself but this Amiodarone has done me in, anyone else have this problem or know of better medication for NSVT. Thanks in advance

From just me personally would never stop a medication without consultation with my doctors.
Back in 2015 I had 5 ICD shocks in 24 hours because my heart went into VTAC. In hospital I was put on Amiodarone by the hospital cardiologist not my EP. When released I studied the Amiodarone about all the toxicity and side affects.
It was not something I did no want to take unless absolutely necessary. It is though a very strong medication that works. I contacted my EP (Mayo Jacksonville) and we talked about getting off of it because of the toxicity to eyes and organs. He agreed but we worked out a plan to slowly come off. It was a period of 2 months.
Later on about 8 years later started having VTAC and shocks. My EP suggested Mexiletine. He said was similar to Amiodarone benefit for helping with tachycardia but without the toxic side affects. The only drawback was that it did not last long in blood stream (thus low toxicity) and had to be taken every 8 hours.
I started taking it and did not have a tachycardia episode for over a year and only one about 3 months ago that I was not shocked but my pacemaker paced me out of it. It had lasted 8 seconds. The Mexiletine also reduced my PVCs in half.
Ask your doctors about the mexiletine since you stopped the Amiodarone yourself as the need to know that and mentioned the Mexiletine to them. I had no side affects with Mexiletine and per medical doctors the medication has a very low toxicity with this medication.

1 Reaction@too well saw my cardiologist yesterday and all went well, his statement was I have Afib not only in upper chamber but also in lower! Stay on Amiodarone but cut 100 mgs in half and take everyday at same time. Check with primary doctor for liver and kidney function every six months. My cardiologist told me Amiodarone is best medicine for me even with side effects! But I’m now on lowest dose so will keep you updated in about month or two! Thank you again

That amiodarone is a powerful potent drug that works. It has toxicity but I see your doctor knows that and will check for toxicity and side affects. If I read right you are only on 50 mg which like you said is very low.
Can I asked when you said have AFIB in upper chamber but also in lower chamber was the lower chamber you are talking about the ventricles?
Good luck, seems you are in good hands.
Yes.thank you

@jc76 yes ventricular I’ve also had Watchman about 3 or so years ago. The Afib I’ve had for years and never bothered me until last few years (upper) lower ventricular is a new problem, hopefully this Amiodarone will keep me going another few days, months or years 😁😂😂😂

As I mentioned a powerful and potent drug that from my own experience works.
When I was taking it stopped my PVCs and tachycardia. The medication I am on now helps but does not have the powerful impact on heart irregularities that Amiodarone had and does.
Stay positive and thing decades of being around.

1 ReactionI've commented on this group that amiodarone damaged my lungs after taking it only 3 weeks. I think my lungs are a bit better after 4 1/2 months. Prednisone didn't help at all. I, therefore have very negative feelings about amiodarone.
