Diet for kidney disease and type 2 diabetes
My kidneys quit in July they are not sure why went through 2 weeks of dialysis and they let me go as I was able to urinate. I have type 2 diabetes under control with diet. DR tells me I have stage 3B CKD. I need a diet that will work with both. Does anyone have any ideas?

One of my friends had his DR call him in as he was being treated for gout. The Dr told my friend that he had almost destroyed his kidneys from the massive doses of the Ibuprofen he had been treating him with. He is getting better since he quit them. Russell

Hi,
That is what can happen when Dr's mitigate your health, which is why I refuse to let them do it to me. I always do my research before accepting another drug my Dr thinks will help. I'm lucky that I have a very high tolerance of pain and don't generally need painkillers.

Hi,
I did all the things I was supposed to do for kidneys and diabetes with diet and lifestyle changes. I pushed my GFR way back up, didn't do much for my diabetes, bought down my cholesterol levels, my IBS got worse and life became a struggle. What I learnt was that my kidneys are resilient to some degree given I take care not to destroy them and are mindful of their needs. My diabetes is untreatable from medication intolerance my cholesterol levels remain down although still high compared to "normal" levels and my digestive system is all but destroyed, my blood pressure remains high.
I resolved to live comfortable and to hell with everything else. Sadly that hasn't happened but
I have learnt what works for me and what dosen't. My diabetes glucoes is around 10 int or about 230 US with liraglutide low dose after fasting, my BP averages 150/100 my cholesterol level is 6.8, my digestive system is destoying me and my heart rate has increased as a result of the insulin from 60's to 80's. I can't increase my meds as I become violent with the increase and I can't delete it as I start having temporary paralysis moments, brain fade and super high BP. I have come to terms with being a ticking time bomb and walk a narrow line trying to attain some sort of comfort until the bomb explodes. There are days when I wish it was today, but, there are days when I'm able to cope with some comfort. As the amount of food I'm able to injesting decreases so does my ability to move around. I don't know if this is a result of lack of protien or diabetic neuropathy. I suspect the latter after upping the protein level with no change to my ability to move around. I'm now faced with a decision to buy a wheelchair to move further or struggle on the way I am. At least struggling forces the body to work. Yes life is pretty crap for me but I think of those who have worse health than me and there are plenty, that makes me realise what have I to complain about, just get on with my lot. I now do as I want within reason and moderation regardless of what tomorrow will bring. I live for today and make the best of it as I can, because there may not be a tomorrow.
It is important for each of us to find our own way through as there is no one pill cures all. We are all human but we are not all the same in composition.
Cheers

Hi,
That is the only way to deal with serious health conditions in my opinion. I have always been physically active and take pride I have above average strength and articulation for my age group. To be loseing it is difficult but sheer bloody minded ness is taking over.
Now 14 years after being given 5 years to live I can only assume I'm doing something right.
Self preservation is strong with determination to beat what I realistically can't stop, I've got to try, it's my nature to push the limits. When I stop, check mate.

Hi, I've just received my blood test results. I am amazed at the results. Since October I came off the anti-inflammatory drugs. Started eating the recommend foods for CKD stage three 3b drank a lot more water , watched my carbs with diabetes 2,.
I am up to stage 2 result 60. My sugar levels have remained low. Now I just need to exercise more and hopefully I can rise my levels to stage 1.

Hi,
Great news, congratulations, now the next task is to stick to the changes. You do realise as we age our kidney function declines with it.

Hi,
An after thought. Just don't overdo the water intake, keep the colour of your urine a light straw colour. If it is clear for a sustained period cut back the water, your over hydrating. To much or to little water can have serious consequences for the body.
Finally exhausted all chances of treating my diabetes and BP problems. Having to decide which is better, the serious side effects from medication or the dire problems from being untreated. I'm tending to go with untreated as the gravity of the consequences has not sunk in where as the side effects of being medicated are making life hell for me right now. Murphys law I guess, stuffed either way I go. I'm overwhelmed at how rapid the onset of diabetic neuropathy has been. Gone from negligable problems 6 months ago to struggling to hold myself up for any duration and no feelings from the knees down. I know what comes next but nobody can give me any idea of when it is likely to happen. It will take me a little time to work through the negative thoughts but I should be able to suck it up and deal with the new reality in time. Just another kick in the guts. Not as though I can change it now anyway.
Cheers

Hi, I'm so sorry you are having such a hard time. I also have neuropathy in my fingers. this makes life quite difficult. One constantly uses ones fingertips all day long and the simplest tasks are sometimes extremely challenging. Medication is another story, I had an allergic reaction to the medication for the neuropathy which has left me with reflux as it damaged my esophagus and entry into my stomach, so now I just put up with the frustration. I wish had some helpful advice for you except to say be patient and kind to yourself .
