Ear Tinnitus and Pain with Neuropathy

Posted by cwallen9 @cwallen9, Jan 29, 2019

Does anyone have severe tinnitus and ear pain with their neuropathy? I have small fiber and autonomic neuropathy and I have been getting severe tinnitus (roaring and high pitch noise) and a feeling of pressure and pain for the last month. I am wondering if the neuropathy and/or medications are causing it. I am on gabopentin, cymbalta, and NSAIDS.

Yes. I have large fiber axonal sensor- motor Polyneuropathy which includes autonomic neuropathy. I’ve had non stop high pitched tinnitus for about 20 years. Sometimes I’ll get several other tones going with it.

My neurologist explained that my tinnitus is caused by the nerve damage to my ears. It’s louder when I’m stressed or tired and also when I wake up in the night and my nerves are vibrating. When it happens at night I can usually get the volume down some by relaxation belly breathing.

I also have tinnitus and peripheral neuropathy. I am glad this thread came back. I don't have any solutions but I agree about having problems mostly at night when I am trying to sleep. During the day I think I can ignore it more because I keep busy. At night trying to sleep it is really a problem. I have also had some luck with deep breathing and prayers and/or meditations.
