This and That and Talk - My Transplant

Posted by Rosemary, Volunteer Mentor @rosemarya, Apr 9, 2017

As our Mayo Connect community grows, I am constantly meeting organ transplant members on a wide variety of forums with a wide range of issues that are not directly transplant specific. However, because we are all transplant recipients, we have a special connection: a unique journey and best of all - a new life! We don't always need help or advice. Many times we just want to chat with someone like us! That is my purpose in starting This and That and Talk.

Drop in and say 'Hi'. You are welcome anytime.

What do you want t to talk about? What words can you offer to someone who is on the journey? Do you have any questions for another recipient?

@hopeful33250 I am jubilant to be finally dealing with a reasonable amount of pain.

Yes, "reasonable pain" is what we all want to achieve!

@rosemarya It is better and better every day. Today I took no meds until about 11:30 and I took them then because my PT was coming. After next Wednesday I will have to switch to outpatient PT. Mark, my home PT has been wonderful. He is really caring and helpful. I will miss him. This is the third time I have had him. I can’t recall what I had him for the the first time but the second time was after my liver transplant. I don’t see PT again in my future and we have developed such a nice relationship I will miss him.
I hope that maybe by next week I can eliminate the narcotics. I will keep them in hand when we go to NYC because I know I will be doing a lot there and I suspect I will need them. I can’t believe how once this started getting better it progressed so quickly. I saw my surgeon yesterday and he as so pleased to hear my progress. He was seeing me more frequently than typical because of the extreme pain I was in but now I am back to normal and I will see him in January. What a huge relief to finally have some normalcy again. Phew...

@contentandwell, JK, Hooray! I'm joining Teresa to cheer for you. This is great to hear - Thank you for sharing such a good report. It certainly is a big improvement over how were feeling a week ago.
JK - The way that you are improving makes me wonder if you will be ready to dance at the reception in a couple weeks:-)

@rosemarya I am sure I could manage a dance or two, if I could find a partner! I am tired of asking my husband and being turned down. Maybe I can dance with my son.

@rosemarya We will see. I am looking forward to the party, it will be nice to have both son and daughter there, along with daughter’s husband (how long will it feel strange to say that?) and David’s lovely girlfriend. Laura and I were texting back and forth tonight with pictures of shoes we were each considering. These phones really make things sort of cool, and it’s nice to confer with each other.

I should hope so. Doesn't every parent dance with their son or daughter after the bride and groom dance? You need to let your son know and make sure the second song is not too fast for your knee.

Ha - it is not always advantageous (slows me down - makes me inefficient). It is also always easier to think for others but not always so easy to think for myself, although I am very practical.

@lcamino, I share a similar "virtue"! Trying to think things thru and being a slow keyboarder really slow things down for me. Now, combine that with my inability to make decisions. It is a good thing that I am retired! Rosemary

@lcamino and @rosemarya You are both admirable people! I always enjoy your posts! Efficiency is not as important as being deliberate and faithful to the task at hand (in my humble opinion, at least).
