Anyone successfully treating PMR without Prednisone?
I am in severe pain with soreness aching in shoulders, upper back, both hips and now headache. I am starting to get some numbness in both hips. I was treated for GCA several years ago starting at 60mg prednisone. Within 6 months I was down to 5mg then a flare so doctor put me back up to 80mg but quickly got me down to 20mg. I continued tapering over the following 6months then off. I had some lasting side effects and watching for in infections from dental work so I am very fearful of taking Prednisone again. This came on gradually over the past month. I called my Rheumatologist to ask if Plaquenil or Methotrexate would hep but he insist this is from long standing Fibromyalgia due to labs normal for inflammation. I can barely walk, stand up or turn over in bed. Taking 400mg Gabepentin daily as Dr recommends. No help. I have never had this severe pain from Fibromyalgia. My husband came down, suddenly, with PMR about 10 years ago with symptoms like I now have. His gradually cleared with Plaquenil and Methotrexate. Has anyone had success treating this type pain with OTC meds such as Omega or Bromelain or anything else?

This is the list of anti inflammatory supplement I had tried, not always at the same time. They all worked more and less: Quercetin; Bromelain; nattokinass; Melatonin; Vitamin D3+K2; Turmeric with black pepper; Lemon balm tea. I am currently taking last four item on the list. I found taking lemon balm tea before bed time help sleep, also greatly reduce stiffness in the morning.

1 ReactionI am going through the same thing right now. I’ve been going through it for over a month now due to an onset after taking gabapentin for three days. I already have an a compromised immune system and now this. Currently searching for natural treatments due to the fact that the new healthcare system that they have implemented will not Get me to someone who can diagnose me properly and work with me on some kind of treatment all they want to do is push more pills and send you to pain management centers that wanna give you even more medications that cause other conditions to arise that could be possibly worse or fatal. True doctors, and anyone who truly is out to help people to conquer a disease or condition should all come together and unite against the tyranny that has been brought up upon the healthcare system through evil intent. .
I can’t believe you have the same symptoms I had. Mine started with “ feeling like I always just worked out for the first time!” Shoulders, upper & lower back in pain. My thighs & buttocks in such pain. It would hurt to stand very long, get up or off the couch and it was all I could do to roll over in bed.
I’m finally down to 10 mg prednisone today. But we have so much snow & it’s so cold that doing anything is exhausting me.
I took gabapentin for years. Worked well but then stopped. The drug you said starts with a pla? I have heard about it before.

Cold for me too problem. Hot tub, shower, heating pad, movement were my solutions.

2 ReactionsI had to stop Prednisone and anti-inflamnatories about a year ago due to other medical reasons. Started on anti-inflamnatory diet fron Harvard, helped a lot. Took a lot of supplements, but only now discovered a drug that really makes a difference: Dapagliflozin (Forxiga). I take metformin for prediabetes, 1g twice daily. Read about Forxiga on Medscape, I now take 5mg at night, makes a huge difference. Reduced Metformin dose to 500mg twice a day. I also take Tylenol arthritis 1 at night.
Combination is helping a lot.

Forxiga (dapagliflozin) is a first-in-class SGLT2 inhibitor, a type of oral medication that helps the kidneys remove excess sugar from the body. I can see how it would help control inflammation.
I'm on Wegovy (semaglutide) a GLP-1 receptor agonist to treat my weight gain caused by Prednisone. I lost 30 pounds on Wegovy. Now my endocrinologist is considering Zepbound to see if it would offer some additional benefits.

I took Prednisone for 12 years for PMR. After a biologic called Actemra allowed me to taper off Prednisone, I haven't needed any Prednisone for 5 years. Now an endocrinologist is trying to reverse my metabolic syndrome caused by Prednisone.
