Hello, I have severe osteoporosis (T score 3.5) and was about to start Teriparatide when by chance I discovered that I had breast cancer. My mother has had breast cancer so I was always careful as I also had dense breasts. Mammograms are not totally reliable in my case and I always had ultrasound follow up. This time I just got a breast MRI done on my own and a tiny lesion was discovered which turned out to be malignant ( doc still had a mammo done which was clear!) I've just had lumpectomy and will now next go for radiation. Any advice on how to protect my already weak bones and when to start bone medication?
Thanks

@shail Tamoxifen helps protect bones. I'm taking a half-dose (10 mg) & doing ok.

@shail —I would recommend Raloxifene instead of tamoxifen as it helps your bones and protects against breast cancer with fewer side effects. It mimics estrogen's effects in the bones to prevent bone thinning and strengthening them (especially the spine) and at the same time blocks the effects of estrogen on breast tissue, reducing the risk of developing invasive breast cancer.
