Slight body tremor - Parkinson's disease?

Posted by ndtwh5352 @ndtwh5352, 1 day ago

so I have this sensation at random times during the day that I have a slight body tremor which I feel but can not see . For several years when I travel south for the winter after nine to ten hours on the road I might feel that I would still be traveling 70 mph when sitting in the hotel room or I might feel that there was a slight vibration in the hotel room

You described what my husband has been saying for a few year's now! He feels them internally...he thinks he is still doing something that he has finished doing. He has had Parkinsons for year's. He has started to open up more and tell me how he feels. I honestly am afraid at times. Life does not always go as planned. He can be shy one minute and the next time be animated , funny and we talk about lot's of things! He used to hate watching certain type of shows that I liked. Now he watches them with me. I have walked in the den and he is watching guess what? A Hallmark movie. Men never cease to amaze me. I hope you feel comfortable sharing. You struck a cord with me. Thanks for sharing!💞🫂

Hello @ndtwh5352,

Welcome to the PD support group on Mayo Connect. Do you only notice these inner tremors after driving for a long distance, or do you have them at other times as well? What about any other problems with balance, walking, gait, speech, or swallowing? Any other type of outward tremors?

I see that @sillyblone has already shared her husband's experience with inner tremors that you described. When I was first diagnosed, I was part of a PD support group in my area, and I recall one member who had inner-jitters for several years before her PD diagnosis. Doctors treated her for anxiety because they did not see this as an early PD symptom.

It might be wise to obtain a referral to a movement disorder specialist. They are neurologists trained to diagnose movement disorders, including PD, as well as other neurological disorders. Remember that neurological disorders are often hard to diagnose and may take several years and many consultations with neurologists. For many of us, it was ten years or more.

I look forward to hearing from you. Will you continue posting updates?

I have been experiencing what I call internal tremors like you describe and heart palpations with rapid heartbeat. It ended up being an endocrinology issue as I tested and have Graves disease. My husband has PD with right side weakness and tremors. He was diagnosed in 2024 after a DATSCAN. He has been experiencing severe pain in both arms usually at night. His pain is unbearable, but recently I discovered that his Rosuvastatin is causing this severe myalgia. It can effect the muscles and cause pain and weakness too---just what he doesn't need. I hope you don't have PD, but if you find you do, know you are not alone and don't rely on your doctors to know it all. Do the research and reach out for any help you need. Best wishes to you!

@ndtwh5352 FYI I’m relatively new to PD and told I am “early” but thought I’d share my experience so far. It will be interesting to hear from others. We are all on different but sometimes similar journeys. Usually I only have orthostatic tremor, which thankfully has been helped by levadopa. However I do love to travel, and am still learning what my limits are. When I have over extended myself I get the internal tremor feeling, and it will persist a while even when I lay down. Once I had to keep pushing (cause sometimes stuff happens when traveling) I started to feel like I was rattling apart, to the point it became quite obvious to others around me. Then I got very self conscious and embarrassed, and it took me a long time to recover- so needless to say I will try VERY hard to avoid that happening again.
