Sjogrens Syndrome and sinus drainage

Posted by sbtheplumber1 @sbtheplumber1, 3 days ago

I’ve had Sjögren’s for years. Dry eyes, nose, mouth! I’m trying to find out if anyone else has had issues with non stop drainage in the throat. I have bulging neck disc as well. I can’t wear a cpap which I need badly. I sleep in a recliner thanks to a failed lumbar fusion April 2023 . Setting up I still choke on the drainage they say it’s not the deviated septum , I’m starting allergy shots next week but taking sinus meds doesn’t help it. Now I can be walking and look down and it’s like a bucket dumped in my throat and I start choking. I also have an Arachnoid cyst on my brain but I was told it has no effect on it causing this.

Rhinitis goes along with autoimmune disease, that's a possibile contributor. I would also look further into all the possible complications of Sjogren's since it impacts mucosal membranes.

I have had post nasal drip since getting scarlet fever at 15. Now 86. Luckily mine is not as bad as yours. Do wake up several times. Maybe just as well I live on my own? Air pollution certainly does not help. Actually felt healthy in Cape Cod when facing the ocean. Live in MN far too close to the Burlington Northern tracks and their oil tankers. I use a Neti pot which helps a little (1 tsp NaCl +1 qt warm water (boiled) Sodium without iodine. Guafenesin helps.

I was diagnosed with Sjogrens about 8 years ago and I have post nasal drip 24/7. It is very annoying and like you, sometimes runs out like a stream. Guafenesin helps but then I get inflamed mouth sores because it dries me out so much. so I don’t take very often

@lgreg it’s hard to use stuff to dry you out especially if you have dry eyes I’m now on 2 bottles of eye drops luckily insurance pays for the $750 one and I get a $59 manufacturer coupon for the $700 one. I tore the tissue on my eye from a dry eye.

@ailsas I occasionally use my netti pot when I get stopped up or have sinus issues! I might do some checking with my doctor about the Guafenesin

@fairn will check that out! My GI doc thinks it’s the stomach acid coming back up since the sphincter isn’t closing causing it but I feel it from the roof of my mouth coming down. And since it happens when I’m setting up also it seems like it would be from Sinuses. Not really wanting a stomach surgery if avoidable

@sbtheplumber1 I use Theratears about 8 times a day. My insurance won’t pay for any of the expensive eye drops and I can’t pay cash. I do ok if I use my drops routinely. Overnight is when I get really dry. Thank you for comments

I haven’t but will give it a try. Thank you!

I use Astopro (it’s over-the counter Azolastine), and it nearly always stops the worst drainage.
