I don't know. All I know is that it was a liquid. When I picked it up from the pharmacy, the pharmacist came to the counter to tell me how to use it. Frankly it never occurred to me to ask what it was specifically for. She never mentioned the word alopecia. Then I started taking biotin. This interfered with my test results. It also says that on the bottle in small print. So my doctor said stop taking it. Again, on my own, i am now taking collagen. The loss of hair seems to be at a standstill.

Biotin? What test results would this interfere with as sadly i have seen a dozen dermatologists and no two have given me the same information. I have more testing coming up and was told nothing about what not to or what TO take prior-you can't ask what you don't know.

I appreciate all of this information as i have received such conflicting information from the "professionals" that this stress alone will make my hair fall out. I have two autoimmune diseases already and have been dealing with thinning hair for about 30 years but have kept it under control. Recently i have found a round patch of hair loss which had been diagnosed LOL by my derm, without a biopsy just his vast experience, as Alopecia Areata and was given steroid shots and continued to use my hair loss topicals. Then i noticed it was getting larger so i went to another derm and was told it looked like scarring alopecia lichen planopilarias, but i am going to have a biopsy this time before i get all upset. I was not told that it was rare or anything like the above statements and it seems that no two doctors offer the same advice so seriously what's a person to do?? Well good luck to everyone and if my doctor gives me any treatment that works i will certainly post. I had IBS-D for a hundred years before i found a gastro doc that actually knew how to help me without killing me first so perhaps there is hope for this hair thing.
Best wishes for a happy holiday season and a healthy 2026

I am not sure what Biotin interferes with. But it even says this on the bottle. If you do take this, why don't you take it with you the next time you go to see your doctor.

I take Hair, Skin and Nails and it's definitely helping. Much less shedding.

@hdwoman What brand hair, skin and nails?

biotin does interfere with thyroid, parathyroid, troponin (heart) cortisol, and vit. D.
was not told by doctor, but was instructions not to take for a few days before the test.

Minoxidil containing ointments for use on the scalp will stimulate hair growth. Minoxidil was originally developed as a high blood pressure med but when taken orally had the side effect of causing hair growth everywhere. The scalp ointment doesn’t have systemic effects.

I’m trying a gummy called Balmbare for hopefully preventing hair loss from the GLP-1 medication I just started. I haven’t taken either of these long enough to see any effect, but FYI.

@5148branelly Minoxidil 2.5 mg. tab will grow back your hair. It takes six months to start to grow, and then of course to grow to some length. But stick with it and your hair will be thick and gorgeous in no time.

@bevsau I also suffer from thinning hair. I consulted a dermatologist who told me she was the "hair expert." I had a biopsy. The results were that I had alopecia, scarring, and inflammation. She wrote me a prescription for a topical solution. Evidently she didn't even consult all the medications I am allergic to. This medication caused my blood sugar to rise. I wondered why I felt so "funny" and it was so hard to get out of bed. Thankfully I still had enough left to figure out that this started with the medication. One day after stopping it I started to feel better. No more medications for me. Right now I am just going with it. If all my hair falls out I will just get a wig.

@thisismarilynb, I am so sorry you had this awful experience. I had a NP prescribe something for me that is clearly on my allergy list. I would get a wig, but not sure I can go that route because my scalp burns. No one really knows the answer to this, but there are some who recommended meds so you might wish to go back and look at other people's solutions. I hope you will find something that helps you. With all good wishes, @joybringer1

I have very thin hair due to androgenetic alopecia. I don't want to wear a wig, although my Mom did from age 60 until she died at the age of 95. I know this is just wishful thinking, but wouldn't it be great if we could just accept ourselves as we are, and not be concerned about how we will be judged because of our appearance? After all, having no hair does not change who we are inside. I for one, at age 81, and having had hair loss since my late teens, am tired of worrying about it, and wishing it were different.
