Let's put some cheer : )))

Posted by surftohealth88 @surftohealth88, 1 day ago

This time of the year is for many (even for very healthy people) challenging and depression promoting, so let’s try to put some cheer in our small community by remembering “small things that can make us smile” no matter what ? The sight of our loved ones is an obvious choice, so let's think of the next best thing ; )- what sight, smell, sound or activity lifts your spirit at once ?

For me it is seeing any very tiny bird in my garden (warbler, finch, wren, vireo, hummingbird …) - I just melt instantaneously < 3 ! I LOVE watching their 100% enjoyment of every second of their life, always happy, always chatting, chasing, bathing - no matter what the weather looks like : )).

What is yours ? : )))

Sometimes it feel likes one lifetime is too little to pursue all the things we want to....

Oh yes, so true !
When I was young girl I went to classical ballet school (serous stuff with Russian teachers and methods and very selective admission lol ) and than as teen I was a principal dancer in Jazz Ballet theater but it was risky and uncertain career so I decided to finish collage lol. I also met my husband very early on and "theater path" was off . To this day I wonder if should have stayed in performing arts ; ). Oh well - in NEXT LIFE !!!! ha ha

Oh : ))), looks so lovely and peaceful !
What are those trees in your front yard < 3 ?
I had no idea that deer is so common in Texas ! We have a lot of hills around and forests too, so deer is commonly seen everywhere - still a sight of them is always so exciting ! Such magnificent and beautiful animal *sigh

@surftohealth88 oh we have hundreds of deer in the subdivision.. lots of people here feed them- I put out old bread and bagels and such..in the winter I buy 10 bags of deer corn and split one open once a month..the deer just wander from one place to another like a big open air buffet...if it is real cold I open my barn and they go in at night to escape the wind..they are pretty well mannered...but you cant get too close to them.

the trees are live oak and we have plenty of red cedar too..

Hope this stupid joke put a smile on at least one of you.

What did the farmer say when he fell off the wagon?

Well,

I guess I’ll hit the road!!!

Woooowww : )))) !!!! < 3
HOW BEAUTIFUULLL !!! Amazing photo : ))), I can only imagine them frolicking through your friendly neighborhood < 3 There is so much beauty around us - we just need to look !

Those oaks look so neat - our CA oaks are too big and droopy for my liking but still very pretty in their own way. They are unfortunately succumbing to "Sudden Oak Death" : ((( (fungal disease) and many are dying and there is no known treatment .

The smell of toast and tea in the morning.

Our kids and their partners coming over to decorate the Christmas tree with us.

Watching my spouse play bass at the jazz club.

Curling up with a cozy murder mystery.

Playing classical guitar while looking out the window at the trees.

Walking in miserable weather like cold drizzle, because weather and walking are two things I didn't experience during my months in a hospital bed.

Even uncomfortable experiences, like being cold and damp, are reminders that I'm ALIVE. And that's amazing. People I pass must wonder what I'm smiling about.

Awe, that is wonderful description NorthStar : )))) ! And how cooooollll that your spouse plays bass at a jazz club - I wish I can hear it : )))

I wish I know how to play an instrument and in particular a piano *sigh , I think I would spend hours each day completely lost in music.

I enrolled my younger daughter in piano school when she was 9 years old and she was the best in class for many years so I played vicariously through her ha ha XP . I always set in room while she practiced and took her to classes, exams and performances - oh boy, it was like yesterday, time flies like crazy ...

Sight - Every sunrise. Not always there but you can pencil me in for every second day.
Smell - I often forget the pleasure but coffee in the early morn.
Sound - I just moved very close to the ocean so that keeps me alert (I live in Japan and a tsunami is a real thing)
Activity - Walking…got to make this more of a habit. I have been somewhat slack of late.

@surftohealth88 Music is for everyone! Buy a soprano recorder (there's great Renaissance and Baroque repertoire) or ukelele, and start playing! Nobody's going to force you to take a conservatory exam. 🙂

Maybe you can even convince your spouse or a friend to take up alto recorder and play duets with you. Or join a recorder quartet (the big tenor recorder is something to see, and the bass recorder is just bizarre).

I used to do competition BBQ. Won a few categories but for personal reasons decided it was time to walk away. I enjoy cooking and watching people as they eat my bbq, whether it be chicken, ribs, pulled pork, brisket, or what ever I make. And yes, a smoker as well as a combination grill/griddle. I mainly listen to “oldies” (60-70’s) and some country. Yeah, a smoked turkey was enjoyed by all on Thanksgiving, and Christmas will have our traditional prime rib roast. Now sit there and salivate… LOL
