Evenity pain

Posted by jeanniebeannie54 @jeanniebeannie54, Oct 25, 2022

I have had 3 months of evenity and my left hip, thigh and buttock are so very painful I can hardly stand, lay down and not walk. Anyone experiencing horrible pain. Help.

Wondering what this pain feels like. I am on Month 5 of Evenity and one hip constantly feels like it burning. I don't know if it is from the drug or from a 4 month old compression fracture at T 11, or something like a jammed SI joint. Can't have chiropractor fix that since bones are so bad. (Spine -4.8). Feeling frustrated.

I've just had my 4th month of injections. For several days a month, I get a very painful feeling in different parts (forearms, back, etc.) that feels so achy--way more than the Flu...like the bones are going to break. Ack! I figure it's 'growing pains' and suck it up.

@debhatchell, you may be right about “growing pains.” My doctor told me that pain in the bones means that the Evenity is working to build new bone.

@isabella5 I have vise grip like pain in my knees often at night. I feel like I have to move to release the pain. I am taking aleve pm 2 o3 nights a week. Just had month 8 of shots. Bone scan in January to check progress!

I also have severe hip, thigh, and knee pain on right side. It is mostly at night and prevents sleep. I'm on shot five of my Evenity journey. I take 800mg ibuprofen every day and it does help but some nights sleep is impossible. I have also tried heat and ice alternately and that seems to help. I am trying to pinpoint a trigger ( walking too much in one day?? or a difference in my diet??). It's very discouraging but I'm hanging in there. Maybe this will help you, ice before bed, heat when I lay down. I started Evenity due to insufficiently fractures of my sacrum so I hope the pain is worth the benefit.

@barbyb50, let’s hope all that pain means bone building! Keep us posted!

hi, I know this isn't much help
"Romosozumab binds to and inhibits sclerostin, which is widely viewed as an osteocyte-specific protein but is also expressed in articular chondrocytes. Sclerostin expression is focally increased in cartilage in osteoarthritis but is decreased in the subjacent subchondral bone22. The substudy of the FRAME trial that assessed the effects of romosozumab on cartilage function raised concerns about whether its inhibition of sclerostin could negatively impact cartilage integrity and accelerate osteoarthritic processes due to potential microarchitectural changes in the joints caused by increased bone density23. While concerns exist about romosozumab possibly exacerbating osteoarthritis, its direct effects on osteoarthritis are limited23 suggesting a complex interplay between bone density enhancement and joint health and a particular need for caution when prescribing treatment for osteoporosis in patients with concurrent joint disorders.

There are those who are convinced that the aching joints are a sign that the medication is working. This excerpt may explain the mechanism for that as well.
