I have visited a Neurologist privately with the concerns of my Shingles being previously on my left side of my face and the outcome was it could take up to 2 years to be fully free of any pain or inflammation that I have on the top of my head and face if I still have it then it won’t ever go away.
Not good reading.

I had shingles almost a year ago. Two months later I developed postherpetic neuralgia. I have itching and burning of the right side of my face. I was put on gabapentin I took as high as 1800 mg Then I stopped I was then put on pentonby my neurologist It didn’t help either I am back on gabapentin 900 mg. I t helps a little The dermatologist couldn’t help the itch. He said it’s underneath the skin and even hydrocortisone won’t do anything. It’s worse at night. Maybe I am busy during the day so I’m not aware of how much it itches. I heard it may be there for the rest of my life. I think what you was told is more encouraging.

I’m hope somebody will update the latest on postherpetic neuralgia. The latest article on it that I could find was written in 2008. That article indicated the best treatment was possibly the Capasin which could put the pain off for months in some cases. The pain management Dr.’s program I am on doesn’t consider it effective. Pregablin 75mg and hydrocodone/acetaminophen 5.325 tb. three times a day along with amitriptyline 25 mg and tamsulosin 0.4 mg once a day are my medications . I got shingles’s in June which lasted six weeks. The neuralgia followed it. It is on my left trunk from backbone to sternum. I’m still in pain mostly on my last muscles and around to my sternum. My skin is so sensitive that just giggling th skin causes pain. I hate the shooting pains that attack unexpectedly. I’m hoping that someone will come up with something. Living with this stuff is nuts!
I’ll check back if someone has anything better than what I am doing so I can suggest it to the pain Dr.
Thanks
I had shingles a year ago. And about two months later, I got postherpetic neuralgia. I had shingles of the cornea and the right side of the face. I never had a rash.
I have an itch from the right side of my scalp passed my eye lid I am on gabapentin 900-1200 mg. It’s not as bad during the day as at night. I am going to ask my doctor about caspian. Thanks for the suggestion Have you tried gabapentin. I have it a year what about you?
@dobie1947 yes I take Pregablin which is the same thing
Can we get rid of postherpetic neuralgia Is it with us for life
@dobieno1947 it can leave and come back. There is no cure but a prescription for an antiviral Mae should help alleviate for a time.
My husband has been scratching since April of 2021. ITCH-X is the only treatment that has worked- we tried EVERYTHING the doctors recommended. However, his skin doctored ordered something different I’m picking up today. He, the doctor, is sure he’ll be relieved in two weeks. I will let you know what it is if it works. We aren’t holding our breaths…
