Hashimoto’s but "normal" thyroid blood work
Hello, I'm a 47 year old Male diagnosed with Hashimoto’s about 3 years ago. I've been suffering for years with symptoms like heart palpitations, severe constipation, diarrhea, brain fog, general fatigue, also waves of fatigue accompanied by slight hand tremors. These symptoms seem to be closely tied to certain foods and a histamine intolerance or MCAS. Food intolerance/allergy testing results show no allergies.
The specialist I went to told me that these symptoms must be caused by something unrelated to my thyroid because other than having antibodies that confirm Hashimoto’s, my thyroid is working fine (normalTSH,T3,T4) and to get a blood test every six months to check those levels, and when those start to go out of range she could treat me for it.
I believed what she said and started pursuing other avenue's to figure out what could be wrong with me. I've been to many doctors and had a ton of blood tests but nobody could find anything else wrong with me.
After reading things online and seeing a couple videos about this. I'm starting to wonder if these symptoms are from Hashimoto’s after all? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Many years ago before there was Internet I read a book about Hashimoto’s. It gets his name from the Doctor Who figured it out .
I have both fibromyalgia as well as Hashimoto’s. To me, it is fibromyalgia, not Hashimoto’s. But it might be something else that I’m kind of thinking of.
Go back to your primary doctor and have a good long talk with them. Something‘s not right.
I know it’s hard to figure things out and get the answers you need..
I wish you the very best on this long journey you’ve been on and I hope you could get the answers you need

2 Reactionstree98, Hey there. I have Fibromyalgia & Hashimotos Thyroiditis & Subclinical Hyperthyroidism. My TSH, T3 & T4 were all within normal range when my primary ordered bloodwork for Thyroid disease. I went to an
Endocrinologist and he ran the complete thyroid panel inclusive of the Thyroid globulin Antibody...hence this
is where the Hashitmoto's showed up and my levels were very high which screams inflammation. My number has finally come down since I was diagnosed, but, is still out of the normal range. A high TGA can also mean, but, rarely Graves Disease. I was diagnosed with Subclinical Hyperthyroidism a few years later.
I will say that a lot of people that I know that have Fibromyalgia also have Thyroid Disease. I highly
recommend for you to get a complete Thyroid Panel. My symptoms of Hashimoto's were extreme fatigue,
very dry skin, brittle hair & dry nails, palpitations, and excessive hair shedding. I went to a Cardiologist and
got a complete workup done and my heart is fine....I am very grateful. I was given Methimazole 5 mg and
it has helped me tremendously. I could not tolerate the other Thyroid Meds. I would also insist on an ultrasound of the thyroid to check for nodules & goiter.
Praying for you. Blessings....

I would like to tell you that different doctors have made my Hashimoto's worse. It wasn't until I saw an endocrinologist that I felt I was finally getting help. That's the specialty that's worth checking out.

2 Reactions@jw9 an endocrinologist is who told me I can't be having symptoms because my TSH,T3,T4 are normal.
I've had 2 cardiac stress tests, EKG's, ecocardiogram and wore a holter monitor on my chest for 2 weeks......... my heart is fine thankfully.
Does anyone else with Hashimoto’s have either MCAS or a histamine intolerance? From the research I've done they can go hand in hand.
I've been to so many doctors/specialists it's not even funny. Something is getting overlooked and I guess I'll have to figure it out without the help of a doctor unfortunately.

2 ReactionsHi @tree98. I am so sorry you are going this frustrating time. I was diagnosed with Hashimotos about 20 yrs ago and post covid about 4 yrs ago which decimated me head to toe, my thyroid and created mcas and histamine symptoms. Many tests doctors too and patience with time keeping food symptom reaction diary did help pinpoint triggers with my pcp adjusting thyroid med knowing complexities bloodwork not always evident🙃 Hope this helps you see light at end of tunnel with quickest healing journey 🌈

3 ReactionsI also have Hashimoto’s but with Hypothyroidism. I treat Hypothyroidism with Synthroid a thyroid medication. I have eliminated certain foods after determining I have Hashimoto’s. Those foods are gluten, dairy and soy. No bread, milk/cheese or soy products, which are found in many packaged foods used for preserving. I also had a food sensitivity test done by blood lab and are staying away from Nightshade foods such as tomatoes, potatoes, zucchini etc. By doing this, my body inflammation has come way down and I do feel better. Sometimes even though your labs come back “within the normal range”, you may need medication. I also suffer from Long Covid and have had to deal with all of those symptoms as well! Be your own advocate and if you’re still not feeling well, find a new doctor that will treat your symptoms.
