Breztri side effects

Posted by hobbity @hobbity, Nov 30, 2025

Hi all , I have recently had a very bad head cold , cough and shortness of breath so my doc took me of spiriva, which i felt was working for me until this episode and put me on Breztri , with a 3 day azithromicin and 5 day 40mg prednisone treatment . I am experiencing some side effects as I have the lowest tolerance for drugs it seems but im sure they'll abate as I get used to it . But I am so nervous of the increased risk of upper respiratory infection and pneumonia with prolonged use of Breztri as it says in the side effects list . I mean , how can that be at all helpful ? I don't want to live my life in the house afraid to go out and risk exposure. My husband has an active life and I would like to join him socializing . What to do ? I would like to go back to Spiriva but not sure if I should risk it .

The same risk is for all inhaled steroids. I’ve been on Trelegy for 5 years and haven’t gotten pneumonia. It’s a very small percentage.

I have been on breztri for 4 years no side effects

I've been on Trelegy for 4 years - no problems. I've also been on various dosages of prednisone - again, no problems. Having said that, I wouldn't change any medication without talking with my dr. first.

Did he say why he switched to breztri? I been on breztri a year maybe and i actually have a cold too, my doctor told me to just take DayQuil and nightquil, this is the second time in a year getting a cold and haven’t had any side effects . All medications come with listings of so many side effects I hate it, but unfortunately I need medication and I just go with it, you read it maybe take what you have and anything that bothers you then stop and let the doctor know, I know it’s scary but unfortunately we have a bad condition and need to take something, Feel better

Well I think she switched me to Breztri because I was having an exacerbation and maybe didn't think the spiriva was good enough ? I had a bad head cold . Also when I got my pulse ox taken it was 93 , which they said wasn't good . But everything i read says that for a person with copd a reading of 88 to 92 is normal ?? So confused about this . At home now its 94-95 . What is the average reading for you guys ?

@hobbity My Doc says 92 to 95 is great. I go as low as 82 when I dress myself. It comes back up to 90 in about 90 seconds after I sit. I am on 24/7 oxygen at 4 ltrs . It runs about 95 if I remain still or move very slowly .

I've been on Breztri for several years....it does not "cause" upper respiratory illnesses, those come up due to exposure to a virus. Remember in listing the side effects that during the clinical trials if one episode of any side effect ie fall, diarrhea etc occurs, they must report this in the research findings.... look at the % of occurrence in the study group not just the side effect. Breztri actually gave me more of a boost that Trelegy.

Thanks for the valuable information everyone . Clearly I need to know more about my condition and how to manage it. I think I'll ask my doctor to refer me to the pulmonolgist at this point so can educate myself . I like my doctor but she's a GP , maybe not knowledgeable enough ?

@hobbity I agree you need to start seeing a pulmonologist/interventional pulmonologist for you respiratory issues. Just be sure he/she comes well recommended and is experienced!
