Dr. Doug Lucas Has anyone here paid money to work with Dr. Lucas?

Posted by trixiegirl @trixiegirl, Jun 1, 2024

I have been following his Youtube channel, did his free masterclass and have learned a great deal. It is evident that he is highly intelligent, motivated, and ambitious. Today I listened to a 2022 podcast interview with him by a health/fitness professional in the UK (Tony Wingard with whom I am not familiar). I think this was just when the optimal bone health website was getting started. The interview is quite interesting as I learned a lot about Dr. Lucas’s background which I have not managed to find anywhere else. I was surprised to know that he was a professional ballet dancer for 2 years before going on to medical school because of his fascination with the muscular/skeletal systems. He also talks about how he moved from orthopedic surgeon to functional-anti-aging medicine and the influence of his wife who is a registered dietician. After listening to this podcast I do believe his main goal is to heal and teach. I like how he analyzes studies and updates information and recommendations.

Yes, I agree. Dr. Doug does offer a lot of valuable advice, but one does get the feeling it is the hook to reel you in to his over-the-top expensive personalized treatment.
After attending a “Masterclass,” I had considered his services, but like many others, balked at the price!
He seems to frequently change his supplement and device recommendations. One has to wonder if some of those changes might have more to do with compensatory deals he has been able to work out with rival companies rather than true science-based reasons? Just sayin’.
Anyway, as noted elsewhere on this site, I was able to reverse my OP without spending $13k. Just drew from various free Youtube videos and took advantage of info on various websites. Threw in a bunch of supplements, exercise, bHRT and a vibration platform, and had an outcome better than a client profiled on Dr. Doug’s channel!

I was in the weekly class with Dr. Doug from the inception and was grandfathered in to pay the initiation rate. I had a personal experience with Dr. Lucas where I lost all respect for him. I can say without hesitation he is not a nice person. And yes, his main focus is to charge 13,000. I had a shocking and very disappointing personal experience with him that blew me away.

It was the usual custom to receive a text and an email link to the upcoming weekly Zoom Wednesday meeting , when suddenly after a year I began to get 15-20 texts A DAY reminding me of the entire month's schedule. I was going goofy from it because I could not get them to stop. I tried to call them but could not locate a number which I found very unusual. I emailed them about what was going on and for weeks heard NOTHING. I eventually located a number online and the woman who answered tried to help me but couldn't do anything and didn't tell me she couldn't help me and should have directed me to the tech support people, which I asked her to do. At that time I didn't know that he had sold the company and the woman who was trying to help me wasn't remotely involved with being able to do that. She kept me on the phone for a long time and because she failed to mention she was no longer working with Dr. Doug, I had no idea to ask for the other company. Had no idea what the name of it was.
A week later I emailed them again and begged them to do something. Not hearing back, not even with basic common courtesy, I called back and someone told me I was calling the wrong number because the company had been sold. The first person I spoke to was with the original company, but didn't care to direct me anywhere. I asked why the original woman on the phone didn't tell me that, and the answer I got was that "she was trying to help you." I said, "If she wanted to help me, she should have told me she wasn't involved with the portion of the company with tech support and directed me to the right person or department." This went on for a few weeks further with these texts. I spoke with my cell phone carrier and they told me the texts had to be shut off from their end. I finally went to the internet and saw a number for Dr. Lucas. I called it and it was his private cell phone. I left him a message detailing what I was going through, and asked him to please delegate the issue to someone who could help me. The next thing I know I received an email that I was no longer a part of the group, and having paid for the entire year, I asked for a refund. The email said THERE ARE NO REFUNDS. I tried to contact the Better Business bureau, but it was going to be a waste of time. I had given him a name of a friend of mine who could help him grow his business, and everything was always very pleasant between us. I asked them if they had a tech support department, but got nowhere. Then I guess having called his personal cell phone, I was then included in a chain email and I began getting his personal emails. At one point he commented that everything going on there was "a shit show." I texted back... "It couldn't have happened to a nicer person." And I hoped that "a shit show" somehow included that I wasn't the only one receiving all those texts and he couldn't turn them off from his end.
I enjoyed those weekly Zooms, but they became VERY repetitive. You hear from him about "his success helping his 'clients' build bone, " but never once did I hear any specifics what he was doing that was working to help the women to gain better bone density paying him 13,000. My request was so minimal when I asked him to help me, and he dismissed me because I believe he felt it wasn't worth his time to take responsibility and fix the problem. In reality, I don't miss him or anything he had to say one bit. He will answer your questions, but his Youtubes are enough. We are all there to build bone density. I was very disappointed in him as a human being. He doesn't respect women when you get right down to it.

Hi connect4bones!
Yikes! What a nightmare! Thanks so much for corroborating what I had suspected. It always seemed disingenous to be charging such outrageous fees while simultaneously claiming to be all about supporting women’s bone health! So sorry you had to go through all that.
I would still definitely report it to the Better Business Bureau, for what it’s worth. Just goes to show how much we are on our own in this minefield of hucksters and self-proclaimed experts! Thank goodness for the few real kind and knowledgeable souls out there who do offer legit help. 🤗

What a horrible, bitter experience. You could probably mount a lawsuit (probably the 'shit show' he referred to) but thanks for exposing him here! I'm new to Osteoporosis and tend to be a very dogged, avid researcher - I'm plowing through mountains of info and solid studies on every question that arises as I go. I saw pretty quickly that there are plenty of sketchy outfits out there - even if most of their their basic advice is OK (often including standard bone health advice easily discovered elsewhere), their claims are rigged and sometimes absurd. I came across "Doctor Doug" early on and was momentarily interested because his creds looked so solid and he sounded reasonable. I wanted to know more about the meds and watched those talks. A lot of what he says seems to be backed up by other solid research that I've seen. He's good at making it understandable. Then I saw his prices, and some other off-putting stuff (insanely rigorous and potentially dangerous exercise program, for one) smelled a rat and fled.

It's hard '- especially for those with some good reason to be inclined to decline meds - not to wander into that whole world of very seductive, credible pickpockets. Ugh.

@beccac thanks for that info. I do enjoy his podcasts or you tube videos. They point me in the right direction for further research. I often wondered who in their right mind would pay those outrageous amounts of money and wondered what I was missing. Thanks to yours and other comments here about Dr Doug, I guess the answer to that is a lot of headaches. Thanks.

I watched Dr. Lucas for a while, but got the impression he wasn't interested in the frail elderly.
I do follow Dr.. Loren Fishman - Twelve Poses vs. Osteoporosis. He continues to tweak his program, lately suggesting the 12 poses be done in two series of 6 poses about six hours apart for double the gains in bone density.

@beccac his videos, or a book (if he wrote one) might be useful, and definitely cheaper than signing on with him ! A few things alerted me to stand back and just pick what makes sense to me. True of several bone ‘experts’…

I joined the Osteocollective for the month (for a minor fee) to see if I found it valuable and I must say I do. I understand that others had less than optimal experiences however I am finding the info useful and really like the way he explains the info. Now finding MDs that agree with opting for HRT vs meds is another storyy. Still working on that part.

It's good to know all this. I watched an interview with Dr. D. the other day, and I got the impression that he goes out there, interviews a lot of experts, then regurgitates what they tell him on youtube. He was completely wrong in what he said about vibration plates. I knew a lot more than he did. He also endorses Algae Cal. I tried it, but it gave me digestive issues, so I couldn't take it. Thank you for exposing a fraudulent practitioner.

I paid to join the osteocollective online group. I found the information helpful. I didn't like all the emails and reminders I got. I don't need to have direct access to Dr. Doug Lucas, I have my own doctors. I fell that the free information on the website and Youtube, is excellent. I've had osteoporosis since I was 45, I am now 69. I have seen several doctors for treatment and none provided the information I got from Dr. Doug Lucas. He provides an opportunity to educate ones self. I like that he provides his reference materal so the information is easily fact check. If I had not seen his information on Evista/Raloxifene I would never have agreed to take Raloxifene. I was able to ask my doctor questions that helped us get to the right treatment plan in place, as I can't take bisphosphonate due to side effects.
