Watermelon Tip: Foods with lycopene that may protect against cancer
I eat watermelon now almost every day since discovered. The Lycopene in watermelon, cooked tomatoes and several other sources containing lesser amounts is supposed to be a cancer killer that has several other benefits.

Yes. Watermelon along with cooked tomatoes and tomato juice were among the dietary recommendations I received after concluding proton therapy 6 weeks ago.

3 ReactionsI simmer tomatoes in olive oil, which I read enhances the benefit, and then put one in my veggie shake each day. Love watermelon and will eat more of it. Thanks for sharing.

6 ReactionsNever knew this . Love watermelon . I will eat more of it . In Italy I ate Mediterranean diet for 4 months, last winter while on contract. Compared to Canadian diet , much better . I felt so much better and lost 7 KG's as well ! Go figure ! Wine was in fact cheaper than water in some cities . .. and everything seems to be grown within 20-50 km's . Pasta wheat , Wine , olives etc . No GMO for sure . Slow service but very genuine and they even sit down at your table while eating ! So .. Lycopene has something going for it I think !

3 ReactionsHave you tried broccoli sprouts? there's something in them that's super good too, my husband makes this "cancer killer" sort of salad and eats it twice a day.
Cilantro, broccoli sprouts, bell pepper, avocado and probably some other things, no lettuce so I guess it's not a salad..... then maybe at night he'll fry up some wild salmon and he eats these twice a day and nothing else and he LOVES it, lost weight at first because he cut out sugar and carbs but for about a month he's kept the same weight.

4 ReactionsInteresting. Webmd has good things to say about it. I eat broccoli almost daily but did not know about the sprouts.

I recently had surgery for an aggressive prostate cancer. My first pos-surgery PSA is undetectable, but given my adverse pathological & genomic risk factors, BCR is possible, or even likely at some point in the future. Scientists like Dr. William Li strongly believe the right nutrition can slow down or even prevent cancer or its recurrence.
What is your experience?
@beaquilter Sulforaphane is the ingredient in broccoli sprouts. I posted a report authored by Mayo's physicians on this topic, but it was taken down after several days. Why..go figure since it was a Mayo-generated research on the positive research metrics. For those who read this, do your homework on this interesting topic. But, sulforaphane seems to slow cancer cell growth and as such impact the PSA in a positive manner. Do I take this supplement? Yes, I buy from Amazon. Why? 2010 underwent proton radiation therapy (PSA: 6.47 Diagnosis as slow-growing prostate cancer; 2.5 months at Loma Linda Hospital with 50 morning treatment at $3300. per treatment. Flash forward 10 years and PSA began to climb; I started taking this supplement after MRI and PET scan showed no cancer, yet PSA kept increasing. Since taking this supplement, the increase in PSA has STOPPED. Take this example for what it is..for the right individual, this natural supplement may slow cancer growth meaning longer life without the downsides of ADT or some other drug. Do your research on this topic and make your own judgment on this entry. The total cost was paid through TriCare of Life..as retired military. Cheers and Happy Holidays. RH-Florida

3 Reactions@soli I think a reasonably healthy diet, moderate exercise and sensible life style will go a long way in fending off cancer. Moderation in anything and everything is the key including what are considered health foods. Otherwise your body will probably let you know.
FYI, You may want to check out my post(s) in the prostate cancer forum. I shared my last 2 years ( posts every 6 months) after treatment experience.

3 ReactionsSince my relapse diagnosis in June, I’ve been drinking 8 oz of tomato juice daily, and preparing tomato based stews (with tomatoes cooked in olive oil) every week. Just finished 8 weeks of IMRT with fatigue as the only major side effect. Did the tomatoes make a difference? Hard to say, but they’re certainly part of a healthy diet, period, and I have no doubt about that making a difference.
