Inoperable Meningioma: not feeling support by my partner

Posted by carolinalynn @carolinalynn, Nov 3, 2025

Hey all. I read all of your stories yesterday afternoon. It struck me how strong we all are, dealing with this scary thing! That said, not feeling it this morning. Halfway through 28 fractionated treatments, actually going for #15 today. Very tired, started having some radiation burning last week that affects my tounge and throat. Nothing tastes like much either. I know this will pass. Currently the worst thing is lack of support from my husband...he actually started a fight with me about how long it takes me to get back and forth to treatments, and where am I am going? What am I doing? Holy f*CK, man. Close to an hour drive each way, through a college town that is a bottleneck with traffic. After tx I get some lunch, stop by grocery store, get gas, go the drugstore, whatever. Typical errands. So it puts me out of the house for a few hours in the afternoons. He keeps asking me where I go and what I do...despite me telling him. Even showing receipts, which is ridiculous but thought it might help with whatever weird ideas he has. He got even madder and has been being an absolute cold jerk the last few days. I asked him if he was worried about me getting him from treatment, safety concern? Was hoping that's where it came from but he denied this. So besides the worries about future of my brain and dealing with side effects from the steroids, tx, he appears to have made up his mind that I'm doing something nefarious. All I'm doing is getting through the day best I can. He's very demeaning, insulting to the point where it feels my very existence is not ok. Anyway, ack. Just feeling very stressed and sad the past few days. Thanks for reading.

When I am stressed out, I go to a Catholic Church and sit in a pew alone in the back and relax. Very quiet inside unless there are services going on. A good place to gather your thoughts and gain a sense of calm. It could be any church where the doors are unlocked.

thanks for sharing , and welcome to the group. me well that's another matter all together. what it sound like is the little green monster at work. i don't have that problem because i am alone way to much of the time . still think of things to do but at the same time wish my wife were still alive and here now so i could ask her some questions. had a brain tumor removed last year and still healing. doc said it could take a year or the rest of my life to heal. i just know that I'm lonely and so i get on here and try to help as many people as i can solve or help understand or just a happy thought to get through the day. helps them and helps me. this Friday is my birthday and glad i have a good chance of waking up and seeing the day come in new. hope the rest of your day goes great.

Randall - Happy Birthday! Do something tomorrow to celebrate your birthday! God put you on this earth for a reason and you have to figure it out! Take a walk, meditate in a church sanctuary, go to an animal shelter and volunteer, go hold new borns in your local hospital, so many things. So get off the internet and start moving. Ask a friend to go with you. Anything, just GO! Dolly

Have a caregiver, were also in the boonies, thank you for the birthday wishes. Will probably get in a walk sometime, tomorrow is laundry and exercises. Caregiver will leave out around 330 pm then I won't see her again till next week.

Hello,
Driving everyday in heavy traffic is taxing even without the effects of radiation treatment and steroids. I had to be on steroids to control brain swelling after my craniotomy, and they caused my blood sugar to spike to the point of requiring insulin to control it. Have you had your blood sugar checked recently? Do you have anyone aside from that a-hole of a husband that can help you get to the appointments? it sounds like he is having a definite negative impact on your healing. Is there anyone you can talk to, a friend, counselor, priest? ‘Nuff said about that. I’ve preached this before, but exercise can be a big help. Walk, bike, go to the gym, take a yoga class. Exercise is a stress reliever. Good luck, hope that tumor is shrinking.

@carolinalynn, the situation with your husband is a really hard one to untangle. It was wise of you to ask if his actions were actually him being scared. Sometimes the people who are closest to us react in unexpected ways when we become sick, especially with something scary and unknown to them like a brain tumor. It sounds like he is scared for the future.

Are you usually the person who takes care of everyone in the family? Is his being suspicious of you or worried about himself new behavior for him?

I sure can relate to how you feel, when the support from your partner, is not there, when you need it the most! When I became ill, with two possibly life-threatening chronic conditions, my partner, who has had serious heart ailments, herself, diabetes etc. was not very supportive at all, even though I was always very supportive of her, when she was very ill! I need her support, not criticism, just like you need your partner’s support, not criticism! I don’t know how to fix the problem! It’s been going on now for a few years, and is getting worse, not better! Confronting her, to discuss the issue, makes it even worse. So now, I’ve turned to my daughter and other family members, who do give me a measure of emotional support! Hang in there!
