Transplant on hold.
My husband was approved for a kidney transplant on 9/30/25 and was put on the list on 10/20/25. He has waited 9 months since his first evaluation back in February. He had more in April and August. And finally he was approved. I’ll be his direct living donor since we are a match. But he has developed what’s called a plureal effusion ( fluid build up outside the lungs). They cannot figure out where is coming from. But they suspect is from his peritoneal Dialysis. They already drained it. Has anybody has had a similar experience? It’s holding him back from having a date for the surgery since they keep asking for tests results for this issue. We understand that everything needs to be in order. We just hope they don’t decline him now after being approved. We are very discouraged and frustrated.

Of course, you are feeling frustrated and discouraged.
I felt the same way when I was listed for a liver transplant in 2008 and had to be 'inactivated' from the transplant list for a deceased donor because of possible cancer in my bile ducts. However, after being tested and cleared of any cancer, I was 're-activated' on the list. It was not an easy journey emotionally and physically, however I am here now and doing well as I approach my 17th year anniversary.
Alicia, this is a one-day-at-a-time process, so try to focus on the positive while holding on to hope. The transplant team will do all that they can to get your husband ready for the surgery. As for yourself, please take care of yourself so that you will be healthy and ready to jump into action as a donor.
I am not familiar with plueral effusion that your husband is experiencing, but want to ask if there have been any sign of improvement?

3 Reactions@alicat60 Dang, that is difficult to hear, isn't it?
Here is an article from Cleveland Clinic that talks about Pleural Effusion: https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/17373-pleural-effusion
Have they told you what type of fluid your husband is collecting?

2 Reactions@rosemarya the dialysis clinic is changing his prescription to see if that helps. Thank you for your encouraging words. It can be a lonely journey. Since most friends and family member don’t understand how it is dealing with a critical illness. I’m so glad you overcame yours. God bless you and wishing the best future.

3 Reactions@gingerw they are testing the fluid as we speak. He had the first one back in August. And there was no signs of infection or other illnesses present. They suspect if from the dialysis fluid not draining properly. Thank you for the link. I’ll check it out.
