How much NAC is safe per day
Hello. I read that NAC can protect the hair cells inside the air from damage done by some of the MAC meds. I also read about its protective effect on the liver and kidneys.
My question is how much is recommended for protection? I have been using 600 mg at night because it helps to thin mucus and is said to help battle mycobacterium avium.
Have any of you had personal experience with the effects from NAC?

Interesting. If NAC will turn into glutathione, why don't we take glutathione directly.
I also heard about glutathione's effectiveness in liver protection.
My understanding is that Glutathione is very very hard to absorb if you take it orally. You can nebulize it however.
Because I choose not to nebulize an unregulated substance (glutathione), I take NAC instead. If I was part of a research study where I had access to a tested, pure source, I would nebulize it directly to my lungs.
For now I take NAC, which my body processes to release glutathione.
hello, a few weeks ago somebody on this forum was writing about having glutathione nebulizing for years. i have bought the brand theranatural-L-glutathione plus capsules but have not used it yet. i know it should be mixed with sodium chloride but i dont think that person said what % sodium. I have been using NAC600 mg once a day and mucinex for over a year. Sue do you use NAC once a day?
I mix mine with 7% saline
Thank you Irene
My husband had COPD. Quite a few years ago he started taking NAC after reading of its benefits. Years ago, he was also put on a hospital program for monitoring the COPD. While they knew he was on NAC, it wasn't ever addressed. After some years, he is now COPD-free, in his 80's. One caution, he was taking two 600 mg pills a day. He has a tendency for vertigo and balance issues. He fell badly and I discovered NAC can activate vertigo. He went off it awhile and now is fine just taking one 600 mg a day.
Hope this gives someone encouragement.
@sueinmn Hi Sue, Can you please tell me what brand of NAC you use? Just saw my ID doc at UMN and he was very supportive of my decision to use it for bronchial support. I'll need to time it around the Big 3, but thankfully I choose to be flexible on my journey to beat down my MAI. Thank
you very much, Terri
