Breast implants and PMR
Hello,
I have been following discussions on PMR trying to see similar issues as my own. My doctor still is not 100% sure PMR is my diagnosis but is treating me with Prednisone. It has been 3 months since the onset of debilitating pain. I have had a bi lateral biopsy for GCA, that was negative. A MRI of both femurs looking for Myositis, negative results.
At present we are dosing down and I have been pain free at 20mg.
Here is my question
I have breast implants since 1989 that have not been a problem since a week ago. I started feeling pain in one and had a 3 d Mammogram with ultra sound immediately. It has been determined there is a rupture.
My doctor says there is not enough conclusive research to link implants to PMR, but there are women like me who believe otherwise.
Early on I saw an infectious disease doctor who I asked randomly (before my mammogram) if my implants could be related. He also said there is not enough research.
Is anyone out there with breast implants who feels the connection I do?
Please respond
Best to you all!
Debbie

Thanks for info. I will go to that site. Yes, diagnosed with PMR. An MRI a year ago showed rupture in left implant. Seeing plastic surgeon tomorrow. Lots of pain and I think there’s a connection between PRM and BII.

2 ReactionsHi,
I had textured saline implants put in in 2000 and both ruptured 2020-2021. I have had many strange, autoimmune like symptoms for at least 7 years and many doctors and specialists were not able to really diagnose me or find the cause(s) beyond small fiber neuropathy and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Some doctors said to just leave the silicone liner shells and scar tissue capsules in since the saline filler was absorbed by my body but I wanted them out once I read about breast implant illness in 2023. The silicone liners and biofilms can cause many problems and toxicity. I had my explant in July 2023 (insurance would not pay saying it wasn’t medically necessary which I am appealing) and the day of my surgery after anesthesia wore off I could tell my brain fog lifted and I had less joint pain in hands/ankles/feet! I also noticed less discomfort in my eyes and it is easier to breathe with less chest pain/pressure. I also was able for the first time in a long time wake up in the morning without an alarm like I used to. I have been so unwell that I would wake up feeling like a zombie even after a good amount of sleep. Anyone who gets implants (cosmetic/mastectomy reasons) should be fully warned of the potential risk for autoimmune like reactions of your body constantly fighting the foreign objects in their chests. BII is no life I would wish on anyone and doctors can make you feel like a hypochondriac or that your symptoms are all in your head. There isn’t a lot of research on BII and we should demand more is done for women’s health if they continue offering implants on the market…it is quite the money maker and we need to overcome the special interests that do not want BII to be widely known or acknowledged if it would negatively impact their money flow. Warn everyone you know who has implants about BII and discourage women from getting implants in the first place, especially before pregnancy and breast feeding!

3 ReactionsYour ordeal sounds terrible, @dllydailyhope. It makes sense to me that the foreign substances in your body would create a lot of problems for you and overstimulate your immune system. I just Googled "breast implants turned toxic" and a number of articles came up, from reputable organizations, so there's a lot to research. I wish you the best.

1 Reaction@dlydailyhope hi ! I just read your post. I am sorry you went through all that! Omg! But lucky it sounds like you are doing and feeling much better! I am considering doing a breast explant myself because my right saline breast deflated. My surgeon said I could have both replaced with the new silicone gummy bear but I am really on the fence about that. I do not have bii. But had dcis on right breast early last year Got treatment with lumpectomy and radiation. Had recent mamogram and all clear. My question is , how was your explant? Did you have drains? And do the breasts ever bounce back? Thanks so much !
I had silicone breast implants put in in 1989, in July of 2024 I had an ultrasound showing both of my implants had ruptured. I had them replaced in September of 2024 implants with gummy bear implants. By November 01 of 2024 I could hardly move I had so much pain in my shoulders, hips, neck wrists and fingers. I was diagnosed in December of 2024 with PMR. My Dr. does not think the two are related but it really makes me wonder. I started off takin 20 mg of prednisone and tapered down, I just got off the prednisone two weeks ago. I am experiencing slight discomfort in my shoulders and wrists but nothing like before. It makes me wonder if have having the implants is the reason I have this condition in the first place.
