Dark circles and bags under my eyes!

Posted by Vickie @vickiekay, Oct 4, 2016

I am wondering if anyone has a 'fix' for dark circles and bags under the eyes.....I am on a lot of medication for rheumatoid arthritis and pain and those may be contributing factors. Has anyone had successful cosmetic surgery for this?

I think if there were a fix, it is a well kept secret 🙂 Joking aside. Here is a post that @claire87john made quite some time ago with some tips http://mayocl.in/2dcniy3 Also here's some information from Mayo Clinic about dark circles http://mayocl.in/1BH54c5. I'm afraid that the cause of mine is hereditary. I wouldn't be willing to do cosmetic surgery. Would you?

LOL! My willingness depends on the day, Colleen!!! I think that my dark circles are genetic....and having RA and taking a ton of medications does not help at all either! My doctors have all been baffled as well and we do wonder if I am allergic to something...but what?!! I just want to look 20 again...when you figure that out, please advise! You will also be a millionaire!!! Thanks for the links -- some of those creams look interesting! Vickie

Not a permanent fix by any means, however works wonders and cheap. Preparation H Ointment. Sounds odd, I know, but it WORKS. Apply it under your eyes for a few hours, depending on the inflammation and dark circles.

I've heard that before about Preparation H ointment and if I remember correctly it has to be the ointment, not lotion, correct?

I was told by my doctor that it may come from rubbing my eye area. She said there are very small blood vessel endings in that area and that they can leak and cause the dark circles. I know i am always rubbing my eyes and have tried to stop.

I'm reading your past post (2017) and wondering if you did try the Preparation H ointment and if it helped? I've developed bags under my eyes recently - not a pretty sight! TIA

Hi I understand what you mean about the dark circles under your eyes. However, I have had RA & Fibromyalgia for 25 years and never had dark circles under my eyes until about the last 1 1/2 . My eyes water constantly, and ALL eye specialists have said it's due to inflammation or Sjogren's. It's as if my eyes think they are dry and they are constantly over watering the surface of my eyes. "people always think I'm crying"! LOL My eyes are red, watery, and they hurt sometimes too. I have tried everything (All medicated eye drops, (including VITAL TEARS, which are made partially from your own blood), Punctal Plugs (inserted in bottom corner of eye lids to absorb water). I also use a cold compress on my eyes for 15 minutes in the morning, and 15 minutes before I go to bed to help sooth them.

I just assumed the dark circles under my eyes came from me always wiping tears away, until I noticed my top eye lid is also darkened. Vaseline does help at night but the dark circles won't go away. Make-up won't cover it up because of all the wiping and watering. How would surgery help this? I wouldn't do it for the dark circles, but I would consider it for the watery eyes. It's driving me crazy! It interferes with seeing, reading, driving, EVERYTHING!
