Have you been told no to hrt if you are 10+ years post menopause?
Starting hrt 10 years post menopause and the flawed Women's health initiative study.
I have been told no and yet the current findings seem to indicate that hrt can still help.

@pattiel Could you make another appointment to discuss the recent Menopause Society article? Maybe bring 2-3 of the best most compelling you can find!
@tillymack What article are you referring to? Just had my bi-annual gyn visit and she too brought up the WHI study and stated it is being looked at from a different perspective. She said "over 65 and 10 yrs past menopause she would not recommend estrogen." I saw they just removed the black box warning from hrt too.
@pattiel Sorry patti, I must have gotten you mixed up with someone else. Several recent articles have been mentioned here previously which might be helpful to bring to such an appointment.
I am 70, and was still having menspause symptoms. I went to gynecologist and got HRT . She told me I could try it for a year. When I spoke to my primary physician I asked if the gynecologist didn't renew my prescription would she. She said yes. She is also on HRT, but she is in her 50s.

2 Reactions@francines I've heard women should not take hrt to prevent osteoporosis. I'm doing weight bearing exercises. Take vit d3, mk7, and trying to get my calcium instead of supplements. It's a gamble between heart disease and osteoporosis. Each of us has to weigh our own risks.
@maryandnans That's interesting. No heart issues I presume. Wow. Both drs agreed. That's quite unusual. I saw a menopause certified dr also and he was quoting the WHI.
@pattiel
May I ask what your sources are? What do you mean that it is a gamble between heart disease and Osteoporosis? Thanks
@gravity3 You have to do the research for yourself and make up your own mind. There is a ton of information out there. Each woman's situation is different. In other words, which is going to get us first if we don't take estrogen in postmenopause - heart disease or osteoporosis.
@tillymack No problem. These drs already have their minds made up. I guess you have to keep trying different drs if you really want to start on estrogen. So funny how the tables have turned after all these years. I'm thinking it's not worth the risk in my case at this point. Do my exercises, watch my diet, and try not to fall. Best to you.
