Meningioma just diagnosed

Posted by jdouglassgregory @jdouglassgregory, Nov 7 7:26am

Hello everyone, and thank goodness for this group!

Can a meningioma cause insomnia? Mine was discovered via MRI after a three-day bout of insomnia. I literally fell asleep on feet and face-planted in the wall. May have torn a rotator cuff in the fall, but that's secondary. Recent symptoms that may or may not be associated with my rumor:

--struggle w/balance (feel both down stairs AND up stairs last week
--insomnia and resultant exaustion
--difficullty gettin' off the floor
--forgetfulness
--seeming loss of some physical strength

Thank you!

the tumor can cause pretty much everything you've put down, mine started with the falls. of course mine was so big it was blocking a lot of things i did not realize. i didn't loose the muscle issue you discussed, i did do a lot of sleeping later in the game as they had to start giving me something for sleep. its taken me almost 2 years since i was operated on but i improve weekly. biggest issue for me is keeping my goals to fight these seizures, but i have learned by trial and error how to get by and make live worth fighting for, todays my birthday, just turned 69.. woo hoo
if you have questions and just want to ask me something feel free too email me. had a great day.
ps, prayer groups help a lot .....

Hello! Agree with Randy. Everything you put down could be meninigioma troubles. Depending on location and size. Could be pressing on important nerves.
I understand everyone's situation is so different.
I recently found mine at age 39, nightly headaches were my cause for getting checked (some balance issues), location was posterior fossa (back of head). Currently almost 5 weeks out of surgery, doing well.
Get into a neurosurgeon as soon as you can. Took me a year and a half just to get into a neurologist :/ All the very best! Keep us posted

Hi
The first sign that something was wrong was sleeping patterns. I couldn’t sleep and started staying up later and later and sleeping in. I had most of the other symptoms described above. Difficulty getting out of chairs, vertigo, left side weakness, moodiness, lost track of time. The cause was a 6+ cm right frontal lobe meningioma.

@lovesdogs40 I also have a meningioma in the posterior fossa and experience balance problems and other issues. I was wondering the size of yours before surgery. Doctors still have me on wait and watch. Thank you!

Hey @deblee
Mine was about the size of a golf ball. Not as large as others, and It was mentioned i could wait another year before removal but you never know what crevices or main nerves it could start to press on or move into. In my situation, it was trying to push into left side of brain, invading another area that would make it tough to perform surgery on if I left long term.
Im really happy they found yours and its monitored!

@lovesdogs40 Thank you for your response and so glad you are doing better. Mine is only 2.4 cm and the doctors said if it reaches 3 cm, they would recommend removing it.
