Hi @tymish17, A bright spot in lung cancer treatment is that there are options and treatment is not a one-size-fits all approach. That means we need a treatment team who can help present us with options that are best for our situation, and who can help us weed through the lists of potential side effects to decide what may be best.
The stage of the cancer, the overall health of the patient, and many clinical factors (PDL-1, biopsy results, etc) can impact treatment decisions. https://www.cancer.org/cancer/types/lung-cancer/treating-small-cell.html
From your previous posts, it looks like you’ve had treatments, is your cancer stable? Are you experiencing side effects?
Hi, I have read that with SCLC, if untreated, the prognosis is poor, with a survival rate of 3-9 months. With chemo and or radiation it can bring it to 3 years. I also read that SCLC always returns. Is there anyone who has had theirs treated successfully? My husband has recently been diagnosed withSCLC in his RLL and it is localized at this point. It seems like it’s taken over 2 months to get his biopsy, and now waiting to see CNP to get pathology findings and to be referred to an oncologist. This entire process is so daunting. How to know what is the best coarse of treatment, which doctor knows how to treat it and not just be a number in the “system?” My husband has moderate COPD and had a pneumothorax from coughing so hard in 2019. He still smokes a few cigarettes a day and won’t quit. I’m heartbroken and lost as to know where to go from here…

@ohiogal8860, I responded to your other post too. The diagnosis process can take a while. That can be tough when we just need answers. The delays can also let us absorb and process what's happening. I hope you have an appointment soon, so you can know what's next.

During his appointment last week,he went over PET scan from 21st of October, and showed us the lit up area on his liver, which led to him ordering g the MRI on liver and brain. He said if it is in the liver, then chemo with immunotherapy and if not, then chemo with radiation. Well, MRI not only confirmed that the cancer had spread to his liver but also to his spine. His brain MRI came back negative for any tumors. He has an appointment follow up this coming Monday to discuss results and where we go from there. Now that it’s in his bone also, I don’t know what he will recommend.
2 nd day of chemo cycle 1. So far, no outward side effects but his lab work is scary. Albumin and Protein is bottomed along with platelets. He has been eating high protein, fruits and veggies. Drinking plenty of water, coffee and protein drinks, vitamin waters. He developed the hiccups today that lasted a few hours. I guess tomorrow we can discuss his lab work with the nurse or doctor. Just wanted to give an update. Thank you all and God bless each and everyone here and those they love.

The standard is different for each stage of the cancer.
