Meningioma: Anyone else? I'm frightened

Posted by pixie49247 @pixie49247, May 12, 2023

I just found out I have a Meningioma tumor from a MRI I had for something else. Doctor said they are almost always benign and am going to get an appointment with a neurologist. Anyone else have one of these. I’m getting very frightened now.

Jason: I think that's what I would do, just monitor as long as scans show no growth. Hopefully your upcoming MRI shows no discernable growth from last year and you can just let things lie for another 365 days.

Just diagnosed on Tuesday. Meeting with a surgeon today. I'm feeling overloaded with facts and information. I'm hoping for some clear direction from the doctor.

@ohmyhead, how did your appointment with the surgeon go? Did you get clear direction on next steps? How are you doing?

See a neuroSURGEON asap. Neurologists will want to “wait and see” which may not be the best course of action.

@dollyjaneprenzel Hi,
Good luck. I went to Mayo in September and the doctor said my Meningioma needs to come out. I’m flying out of Albuquerque on Sunday to Mayo. Surgery is Wednesday. I’m kinda scared.

Yes I had one in September. My Meningioma has grown and I’m having surgery on Wednesday. I’m scared.
Make sure you ask plenty of questions. Good luck.

I had meningioma surgery nine months ago. The tumor was half the size of a cue ball, for reference. I had no symptoms other than increasing weakness ( I had lost nearly 50 pounds and was exercising daily). I was on a high dose of mounjaro for my type 2 diabetes and my A1C was 6.1 at that point. My surgery went very well and I only spent 1 night in ICU and I night in the hospital. I had been an accomplished pianist but the surgery left me unable to play with my left hand. After months of intense practicing I am once again able to play but not at the level of consistency I used to have. I am still experiencing extreme weakness on my left side in particular and have had to start using a walker over the past several weeks. I'm very frustrated at this point. I had my first ever seizure a month ago and now can't drive. I'm sorry for the essay but wonder if anyone else has experienced anything similar. The doctors keep saying that this should reconcile in time

@carlvcjr: When you notified your doctor that you were now using a walker, but more importantly that you had a seizure, and this happening 8 months post surgery, did he/she order a repeat MRI to take a look/see? With those new symptoms ( needing a walker-seizure) I wouldn't settle for being told things "should reconcile in time" unless another MRI was done to rule out anything new.

@mkoch
Lots of scans, etc were done while I was in the hospital. Apparently the scar tissue from the meningioma surgery triggered the seizure. My GP has ordered scans of my spine because it is possible that the bulging discs at L4/5 and L5- S1 are putting pressure on the nerves. Hence the increasing numbness and weakness.
Thanks
