What's up with the pain medication

Posted by koneil @koneil, Mar 8 12:42pm

I'm not sure if any members are experiencing this butI am. I am a chronic pain patient. I'm seen for back pain a long with many other issues.
I get a prescription for morphine , used twice a day for 30 days. That medication has been out of stock for over two months here. I also have had problems with 10/325 hydrocodone. They limit my prescriptions to 120 per month. It's also difficult to get. Is anyone else experiencing these issues? Please advise.

There's always a problem with pain meds from back orders, out of stock or more realistically, the distributor that your pharmacy uses.
I'm often told it's on back order, only to find out,vit is NOT, but the distributor CVS uses here( NC) never seems to be able to fulfill its orders.
As a nurse/patient..I've done my research, spoken to the manufacturer of different pain meds and found . It's all about the distributor.
Each pharmacy depending on areas you reside, have a distributer( a middle man) who acquires the drugs pharmacy orders, from different manufacturers..the least expensive usually chosen so they change alot.
I found that Walmart pharmacy in my NC area seems to be able to fulfill pain meds better than CVS or Walgreens..Oxycodone with Acetaminophen 10/325 most common, Rhodes but I prefer
Mallinkroft..it's stronger so use less.
Dilaudid has been harder to get, 2mg or4mg..but again it's where you reside, what pharmacy you use and who they use for a Distributor.

Good afternoon siclygurl. I have not tried Walmart, but the Sam's Club was not fun. They limit the quantity of hydrocodone to 120 per month.
The pharmacist went over all my other medications . He said all my medications out loud so everyone in the prescription line could hear. That's OK that he was doing due diligence with my meds, but don't humiliate me fof taking pain medication. I never went back to that pharmacy.
In my experience, CVS has some faults They have never made me feel like a criminal.
In San Antonio, we have HEB grocery stores. HEB has the best pharmacy around, and a very good grocery store.
One stop for me.
Good luck on your pain meds.

@koneil Some pharmacists, and Physicians' "Assistants" believe themselves doctors and need a reality check. Your prescribed medication is between you and your physician only; pharmacists are there to fill the prescription correctly.

As far as a legal weed state, I hate to say it but I've been trying AI with questions like yours. I suggest you try it. Maybe someone here knows way more than me about which AI's are better. You might try some warm states nearby to start your research. I just saw New Mexico is offering free childcare, now that's pretty liberal stuff. Good luck.

Thanks woojr.
I looked at New Mexico is one of them. I have been there frequently before my disability sidelined me. Taos, Red River and Angel Fire. It looks appealing, but the states crime rate is very high.
Santa Fe is beautiful. Ill have to go there again before I decide
I wanted to move to the Nothern Pacific states, but they cost of living is too high.

@koneil Yeah, it's tough to find it all in one place. We have high property taxes and winter has gotten easier than when I was child. All in all I'm near Cowtown where the rodeo has been for many decades and it feels a little like Alabama. I love how quiet it is here and I'm not too far away from my doctors and hospitals in Delaware and Philly. My oldest daughter has a small farm nearby and my son has a very profitable commercial electrical business that covers several states. He's been spending a lot of time in Florida sponsoring a business there. He's a shark. I'm hoping he'll buy something we can stay in winter. We used to go there but my 96 year old mother requires our full time attention these days. Good luck

I’m on pain medication and am using recently switched to Walmart. I used to use Walgreens and they were okay expect the people working there could be very rude at times and the drive through line was so slow. Walmart has been great and so fast to have your prescription ready. To pick pain medication, you do have to show a valid driver license. I hope this helps and you find a solution. 🙂

@woojr I commend you for taking care of your Mom. I did care for my Mom until she had contracted dementia. It was too hard for one person so I hired an outside agency. I thought the caregivers were vetted, but evidently they were not. Days before my Moms passing, I discovered all of her jewelery and silverware missing.
Fortunately, I have video camera that recorded the whole event I prosecuted, and recieved restitution.
I'm looking for a Mom & Pop pharmacy to set up something every month.
Did you say you were from Alabama?

@koneil I said I'm from South Jersey, it's been farmland forever but for the last twenty years or so warehouses are all along the major highways and turnpikes. These warehouses are gigantic and supply companies like Amazon. My son has had jobs on these concrete giants. He said some of the newer ones have no lights because the robots don't need light. I think he was serious, LOL.

Are there mom & pop anything these days? In our area many pharmacies have closed. Rite Aid & Walgreens recently left. In one small town the food store closed and was replaced with a Wawa, Mcdonald's and Dollar General. It's tough for the less fortunate people who don't have cars to buy anything like produce, fish or meat at a fair price. They've been eating fast food and there's no doctors or dentists in a couple of these towns. Sad.
