Meningioma: Anyone else? I'm frightened

Posted by pixie49247 @pixie49247, May 12, 2023

I just found out I have a Meningioma tumor from a MRI I had for something else. Doctor said they are almost always benign and am going to get an appointment with a neurologist. Anyone else have one of these. I’m getting very frightened now.

I’d love to know in March if you don’t mind sharing

@jasonl1012 , Ask away. I don't mind. I had 5 treatments and from start to end about 45 mins. I requested a mild sedation. Between the MRI'S and Radiation I can't stand being locked down any more. Sedation for the Radiation was a big help. I 'll find out in March if it helps for the MRI'S.

@jasonl1012 , I'm very tired. I have great days. Yesterday I packed up almost the entire yard for winter. Today I needed fun. So, I went shopping and checked out Christmas deco. I don't need any more but I did get a few things. Remember to be good to your self. Go do something you enjoy. All this other stuff will still be there.

Don’t stress
It doesn’t help Easier said than done
It’s going to be a long road
I’ve had three
Surgery on the first one in 2015
Radiation Therapy on the next two in 2021

@heni110 , to be truthful rather you buy it or not s your call, everyone's different and treats conditions in various ways. i kickback and think of places I've been or want to visit or just a good time, that takes some concentration to bring it up but at the same time relaxes me , trigger guards. stressing is not gonna help but hinder your progress. i I'm a recovering TBI victim of brain tumor that was cancer and cancer both at the same time plus lung cancer. no guarantees no warranty, just prayer chains and the will to live and fight for every breath. i don't know the future and todays my birthday. going to go out and have dinner with family and friends and pray i don't have another seizure along the way. but i will raise my hand and my daughter knows i need a time out to ease my mind use that trigger to put everyone at ease and not stress out. at least it helps me i turned 69 today. Loving the day even after i tore some meat from my arm again. blood thinners oh the life. have to be easier the rest of the day. good luck to you and ill say a prayer for you.

@jasonl1012: Down the road I may have to have radiation on one, or both, of 2 remaining meningiomas. I found this article regarding cyber knife versus gamma knife a few years back when I was trying to decide between surgery or radiation for the optic nerve meningioma I did have removed. I thought I'd post in case you, or anyone else, may be interested.

With regard to the Summit Cancer Centers chart on cyber knife versus gamma knife I posted. It is stated that gamma knife is just a single, high dose treatment. That is no longer correct. One can have multiple treatments with gamma knife now. In fact, the radiation oncologist I consulted with 2 years ago (the doctor who oversees the stereotactic radiation procedure) said that there seems to be less side effects (nausea, tiredness) when the sessions are spaced out rather than one single dose.

Jason is the one by the optic nerve gone? How many do you have and where are they located. I have 2 the one by the optic nerve. Which was radiated. My Radiologist said he would not do Radiation near the nerve even if my Neuro want to. The second is by the nerve to the RT ear..

@crowley53
I had one large one that went from my optic nerves, partially wrapped around the right one, down, pressing on the pituitary gland, which was pushing it to the side, and back to my internal carotid arteries and wrapped around one of them. The surgeon said he was able to tease it off the Optic nerve and away from the pituitary gland and removed all except of a cuff of tissue around the internal carotid arteries. He said messing with the internal carotid arteries was way too dangerous. He said if he nicked it there’s no way to stop the bleeding and you die. So now I have to go back and have radiation for the residual tumor. it sucks. I wish he could’ve gotten all of it, but I understand how dangerous that could be.

@jasonl1012 , is the tumor growing? Do you have symptoms from the leftover tumor around the Carotid?
