I have been using Trazadone since my transplant on 2/6/25. My prescription is a pill not a capsule. No dry mouth, itching, pain or burning, but I still wake up to use restroom. Rarely get more than six hours sleep. I also use Melatonin to shut down the mind.
I’ve been using Trazadone for at least twelve years with no side effects, but during that time I’ve had to increase the dosage from a quarter of a pill to a full pill plus a quarter over time. During the pandemic I switched to ebooks, so I’m not helping myself by reading a book on my iPad before bed!
I took trazadone every night for about 14 years. It gave moderate help but I took temazapam 3 or 4 times a week along with it so I could get some good sleep. The trazadone stopped working completely after the 13 or 14 years. Had no side effects from it. The temazapam never did stop working. It was doctors who decided I shouldn’t take it whether it worked or not.
Just started using 1/3rd Trazedone pill per night along with Zolpidem ER which I've taken for years. If I find positive results, I'll create a new topic sharing my experience with everyone

@toren123. I'm so sorry the doctors made you stop taking Temazepam. That sucks. They should never have done that. Alot of doctors just are so against benzodiazepines that they don't care about you and your well-being. Sleep is very very important to a person's overall health. I'm lucky to be prescribed a benzo for sleep/anxiety that I take daily. My quality of life is improved greatly because of taking this medication. I hope you found something else for sleep that works for you. If not.... maybe try Ambien, or Lunesta. I wish you the best and hope you are getting good quality sleep. If not, you need to talk to your doctor.

@cindisue
Thank you cindisue. Ambien had too many side effects for me and several others didn’t help. I am taking Lunesta which helps some. I also take Gabapentin which is good but also has side effects. Too bad that the needs of the patient sometimes take 2nd place to the need health care professionals feel to follow fimpractical rules.'
Last night I took my first dose of Trazodone 100mg prescribed for insomnia. I read that dry mouth was a side effect and I have to say it absolutely was for me. Aside from the dry mouth, I had to get up FIVE times during the night to pee! I only took a sip of water each time I got up to try an relieve the extreme cotton-mouth. I felt like I had taken a diurectic. I had no other side effects. Has anyone else experienced this? As it stands now, it's useless as a sleep aid for me.
@4by4 Yes dry mouth is awful wakes me up to drink loads of water, weird dreams too. Doesnt stop the pain so only keeps me asleep for a few hours, but what else is there?

Trazodone is a drug that doesn't help me get to sleep but when I finally do fall asleep Trazodone allow me to sleep for ten hours.
