Has anyone tried physical therapy, shockwave treatment, or orthotics—what was your experience?

@22schromi I had plantar facilitis and my doctor gave me an anti inflammatory to take for a short period. Also, she told me to freeze water bottles and roll them back and forth with my feet. Those 2 things along with wearing shoes that have good support and cushioning took care of it for me. That was about 1 year ago. It took maybe 2 weeks to clear up and I've not had it return so far

I had plantar fascitis a good many years ago. My PT recommended a boot which I wore while sleeping only. It took a few weeks and it worked wonders. It has not ever come back.

I've had it in both feet, ten years apart. It seems
like forever, but it does get better. The above comments are also what I did, but also stretching the foot before getting up. I went to PT and she massaged my foot and had me do light stretching and specific exercises. I'm sure you can find them online. I now have orthotic in my everyday shoes and store bought supports in every shoe I wear. Oh, I also had a cortisone injection in my heel. It's not fun but it did help.

Yes in my experience the electricity treatment took 50% pain away then ultrasound took rest of pain away, then given a gel heel to wear in shoes and told no treadmill, use elliptical, no flip flops, no walking barefoot and wear arch supportive shoes. Years later it came back because I got lax and this time PT used deep tissue massage to tear up muscle
fibers on bottom of foot which worked
Unfortunately the exercises of rolling frozen water bottle under foot and rolling ball under foot didn’t work for me

I used flexible bootlike stretchers that kept the toes curled upward, worn while sleeping, Thermoskin. I wore them for years and they worked wonders. Also I had custom orthotics.

My husband had planters last year. Seemed like he had it forever, tried shots, PT, different shoes, etc…. Shockwave treatment was the game changer. Once he did that and switched to Hoka’s, issue was resolved. Been good for at least 6 months, hope it stays that way.

Hello...I just joined because I have pf in my left foot. It's been 6 months. Mine is worse through the day and I believe was caused by a lot of standing this past winter, cooking and preparing food. I wear Hokas and Brooks shoes. The podiatrist had me order high-arch insoles which I wore for a while but they aggravated my foot and caused more pain so I took the out of my shoes. I went to 3 sessions of phys therapy but it was so basic and elementary, I stopped going. It was less than what I was doing at home; I was hoping for something more intensive. I just finished my 3rd treatment of shockwave therapy yesterday and no improvement yet. So, my days are spent limping around and sitting on the couch watching my waistline grow. I notice this forum isn't very active but was hoping to hear from someone. Thanks.

Please ask the Podiatrist to order an Xray/?Mri of your foot. If MRI of your foot. I too had terrible pain from Plantar Fasicitis several years ago
Had seen a Podiatrist who treated that pain without relief. Went for a Podiatry 2nd Opinion. Results torn fascia secondary to Cortisone Injections. Had to wear a boot x 6wks & then Orthotics which I continue to wear till this day!!

@dove123 I suffered too, did all of the things, pt, etc. I found 2 things that helped tremendously. One was pf socks that I bought on amazon. I didn’t think they would help but had tried everything else. They came in packs of 6, I wore them everyday. It definitely improved my pf a lot. The 2nd thing and most effective thing was having a massage. She worked on the sides of my ankles as well as other areas. It was painful but did the trick. It’s gone and I go once a month to keep it gone. Good luck!

I had plantar fasciitis problems back in the 1980s when running 1 hour a day & doing marathons, 10 and 5 ks, and the preventive solution I have found and worked for 40 years is the PROSTRETCH foot devices available on Amazon and elsewhere. I do the stretch every day and have not had the problems I used to have. I use just one device at a time (you can buy in pairs) because I feel I get a better stretch with just one.
