Has anyone taken trazodone (Desyrel) for insomnia. If so, what was your experience with it?

Trazadone seems to be one of the medications doctors like prescribing for insomnia because it’s non addicting. However, I don’t like the way it makes me feel. So even though it seems to help with insomnia, I purposely stay away from it. Right now I’m taking Seroquel, Hydroxizine, and Gabapentin together for sleep. This combination is working for me for trouble falling asleep and it gives me a wonderfully deep sleep.

I have been on trazodone over 30 years and I still go through periods where I don’t sleep and I am on a high dose of 300 mg at bedtime

A doctor once told me that anything over 150 mg of trazodone doesn’t really work for sleep.

Wow, I didn’t know that my rheumatologist put me on that for sleep all those years ago. Thanks so much for the information.

Last night I took my first dose of Trazodone 100mg prescribed for insomnia. I read that dry mouth was a side effect and I have to say it absolutely was for me. Aside from the dry mouth, I had to get up FIVE times during the night to pee! I only took a sip of water each time I got up to try an relieve the extreme cotton-mouth. I felt like I had taken a diurectic. I had no other side effects. Has anyone else experienced this? As it stands now, it's useless as a sleep aid for me.

I’ve taken Trazodone to help me sleep through the night. Getting to sleep was never an issue, but I would wake in the middle of the night and have trouble getting back to sleep. Trazodone helps me get back to sleep.

I just started on Trazodone. 50 mg. After 6 days of no sleep I finally got a good night's rest and I love it. No after effects, only dry mouth. I'm thankful and will keep you posted on my sleep journey.

@andygw I can't handle the dry mouth. It actually wakes me up, I'm so parched. I still can't figure out why I had to pee so many times.
