Waldenstroms cancer for two years and just diagnosed with menangiona after brain scan. Doc said will need radiation and also referring to neurologist. Is this connected to my cancer.
Probably benign. What does the future hold? Too shocked at visit to
Ask too many questions. Chemo ties so thought I’d try to get more answers then.
He said probably benign.

Yes, over 90% of meningiomas are benign. Is the "Doc" you refer to your primary care physician? (P.C.P.) Being referred to a neurologist could be a next step, but his role would be to mostly refer you to a neurosurgeon. I would only follow the recommendation regarding removal or radiation of your meningioma from a neurosurgeon, not a neurologist. I'm sorry you are going through this stress.

@zeedee1: If you read through past posts on this forum you will find many contributors highly recommend getting a second, and even third opinion. When my meningioma was discovered incidentally during a scan for stroke, my PCP said not to worry. They're benign 97% of the time. I accepted that. Many months later, during my annual check up with my oncologist for b/c, I brought my radiology report and discussed the findings of my 2.7cm. meningioma with her. She agreed with my PCP that it was probably benign but offered, if I would feel more comfortable, to send a referral to a neurologist. I took her up on the offer. The neurologist said that no one would operate in that location, too dangerous. To cut to the end of the story, and save others who have read the long version before, I saw a neurosurgeon at a teaching hospital/university and he said I was going to lose the vision in my left eye if it was not removed. I shared with him that both a neurologist and a radiation oncologist had said no surgeon would ever attempt to remove it. His answer was, "I do one or two a week in that location." The craniotomy was easier than my breast cancer surgery. But the real point of my post is to reiterate the importance of meeting with a neurosurgeon. A neurologist's wheel house is more diseases of the brain, not tumors.

Navigating all of these issues is trying. I’m staying optimistic for family but every once in awhile.Waldenstroms still not in remission, the new tumor, anemia, now macular degeneration.. seeing eye specialist Thursday. Neuo can’t see me until Jan . Oncologist trying to run interference for me there . Knowing it’s there I just want it out or radiation. Want to get on with my life. Sorry, just a weird morning.. it’s be the steroids. I’ll be better on a little while. Certainly helps so much being able to be honest.. afraid to with my family😟

If a neurologist or neurosurgeon can’t see you until January, find another doctor. Try a university teaching hospital if you can find one within a day’s driving distance. Most of us can. Stay strong. Keep us posted. Good luck!

@zeedee1: I'm sorry you're having to deal with so many health issues at once. And having to wait 2 months to see a neuro specialist isn't helping your anxiety level. I'm hoping your oncologist can pull some strings and, somehow, get you in to see someone sooner. Feel free to send a private message to me regarding any questions or if you just want to vent.

@zeedee1, I added your question to the Brain Tumor support group here: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/brain-tumor-support-group/

Use the group search to find other discussions about menigiomas.

I'm so sorry to hear that you have the diagnosis of a menigioma to add to your diagnosis of Waldenstrom's. Have you had a consult with the neurologist? Often no treatment is required (watch and wait). Do you have a treatment plan?

Saw neurologist yesterday and he is repeating mri from a month ago to see if it’s aggressive and help determine if it’s benign. Blood pressure was super high 180 over 122. Put me on propanal
Said he saw a slight Freon in right hand and gave me a I’ll Retztropin for emergencies in the mean time. Said radiation can destroy good your as weak as bad and tumor in a tough place. Oncologist recommending radiation a few weeks ago? I see him Dec 2. Don’t know if I should get mri or wait to see oncologist. Both drs are sure it’s benign.
