How to ween off Klonopin (or any Benzodiazapeme)

Posted by obedad @obedad, Mar 26, 2024

I’ve been on 1.5mg Klonopin at night for 15 years or so. Every time I try to ween off, even half of a half of the three pills, I can’t sleep and end up taking the full dose. Is there an inpatient or outpatient center in NYC/Long Island area that would help ween me off it medically? I really just use it to sleep. I am also on Lithium, Lamictal and Effexor for. Polar Disorder. Thank you!

I have been taking 1 mg for sleep almost 2,yesrs! It had not helped with sleep for the last 6-8 months. I have been struggling, and when i asked my doc for help she just kept adding craxy medications to the kolonopin at night which did nothing but make me feel worse! Then i asked her to help me get off of it and she said she did not have the knowledge in doing that!!! Crazy she is my psychiatrist !!! She should have never prescribed it and should have never let me stay on it for this long. I do not take any other meds, started tapering myself slowly doing ok i am now down to half mg, seeing a new doctor, however, i am still struggling with sleep, using cbd thc cbn gummies thst do not always work, afraid if other meds, do you have any suggestions of what i can do for sleeping??

My doctor is a Psychologist doctor trained pharmacy & is very knowledgeable with all the medicines. Maybe see if you can find someone in your area.
Good luck.

I have been on 1mg Klonopin for 20 years and now that I am getting older feel as though I should try to taper it to 0.5. It was prescribed to me because of the tinnitus I get from other meds. Went to a hearing specialist and nothing was wrong with my hearing so I stopped the everything else and the tinnitus stopped. I am on Lexapro and take Gabapentin for RLS. My problem is that I need the 0.5mg to be able to deal with the constant tinnitus. Now sure how to taper it to half of the 1mg.

@wgray I did it very slowly with the guidance of my psychiatrist. From 1 to .75mg for about 6 weeks, then .5mg same length of time. Then .375, .25 and finally .125mg. I didn’t have much trouble until I got below .5mg
