How to ween off Klonopin (or any Benzodiazapeme)

I have been on 1mg Klonopin for 20 years and now that I am getting older feel as though I should try to taper it to 0.5. It was prescribed to me because of the tinnitus I get from other meds. Went to a hearing specialist and nothing was wrong with my hearing so I stopped the everything else and the tinnitus stopped. I am on Lexapro and take Gabapentin for RLS. My problem is that I need the 0.5mg to be able to deal with the constant tinnitus. Now sure how to taper it to half of the 1mg.

@wgray I have developed severe tinnitus the past couple of months. Tapering down from 1mg ativan for the past several weeks and wondering if that is causing it. Do you know what is causing yours? What other medications do you think could be causing it? It is driving me nuts.....:(

@wgray I did it very slowly with the guidance of my psychiatrist. From 1 to .75mg for about 6 weeks, then .5mg same length of time. Then .375, .25 and finally .125mg. I didn’t have much trouble until I got below .5mg
