What is good for thinning hair after long-term steroids?

Posted by vball91 @vball91, Oct 19 6:12pm

I had Solumedrol infusions for about two years. I tried Cytoxan, too. So my hair is now thin, especially at the scalp. Has anyone used a product that helped with hair regrowth/thickening? I’m wondering if oral vitamins or a hair oil is better.

I use minoxidil. It has made a difference in 6 months.
Good Luck

@mrbear0830, is the Minoxidil in pill form? If it is, how much do you take? One doctor prescribed 1/4 tablet of 2.5 mg of Minoxidil. Another doctor (my PCP) thought this was not going to help owing to the small amount prescribed. My PCP prescribed Finasteride 1 mg daily. I began taking both of these about 2 months ago. I know it takes a while for something to change, but would very much appreciate hearing what dosage of Minoxidil you are taking because you saw a difference. I am so tired of finding hair everywhere and was embarrassed recently when we had lunch a friends' home and my friend pulled a hair off my sweater. I try really hard to avoid something like this, but I am losing so much hair, I can hardly keep up with all of it. Thanks for any information you can share. With all good wishes, @joybringer1

@vball91 I was on Mycophenelate for approx 7 years and never lost any hair. I’ll check my drug book for side effects and let you know.

@becsbuddy - Several members have mentioned hair loss and are questioning it’s origin.

There are several ways in which hair loss happens: hereditary, stress, loss due to medications, hormonal, chemotherapy, and sometimes for an unknown reason.

Hi. I have had very good luck with minoxidil tablets 2.5 mg. taking one quarter of a pill every night. It takes awhile to get the real results, 4 to 6 months for me to see a big difference in my the part in my hair. Way cool! Be patient.
