Are you happy with your Artificial Urinary Sphincter?
Has anyone here had the above procedure done and if so are you happy with it. The Urologist is recommending it for my 80 yr old husband. Thank you very much for your input.

1 ReactionI'm the poster child for AUS 800.
2 1/2 years ago (when 76 YO) had surgery from what was either a fantastic surgeon and/or guardian angel.
I was under for 4-hours and outpatient !
NO memorable bruising, pain, limitations, or distress (just don't lift over 10# and don't heavily wash area when in the shower).
Went from 7 to 9 pads a day to one super small (#2) liner 'just in case' ever since.
See if you can find a super surgeon; maybe one who has done many AUS's and does "gender affirming" surgery. They know the territory and have experience.

1 Reaction@grandpun Outpatient?!?! Damn!!! That's sooooo good! Glad it's worked out for you. Planning on doing it within the next 6 months. I currently wear a clamp when I go out and about(including golf). The more I hear about the AUS the more I like it.
Thanks!

1 Reaction@mirsy the condom catheter is temporary. It took 3 tries to get one to stay on. Urologist had samples. Once I got the correct size I went to mayo store and bought lots. I used it for my 40 hbo treatments because I could not hold it for 2 1/2 hours for each treatment. Couple of times for a road trip. Still need the leg bag but much nicer without Foley catheter.
I chose not to get the AUS due to complications (Urethral stricture). I couldn’t be more pleased with a $39 incontinence clamp. Does not hurt when sitting on hard surfaces as many AUS users have reported. Can do anything while wearing it. Seldom remember it’s even there. No chance of malfunctioning necessitating surgical replacement like an AUS. I recommend giving it a try before committing to an AUS. After trying several, I settled on the Weisner Clamp bought on Amazon).
@peterj116 I’ve worn the Weisner clamp 16-20 hours a day for 3 years with no ill effects. I Don’t clamp too tight for 100% effectiveness. Most leaking occurs at night when clamp is off. I use one pad a day. Change location of clamp with every void.

1 Reaction@mirsy The condom catheter was a nightmare for me. Dragging a bag strapped onto my leg all day. Shorts, swimming, things of the past. Switching from daytime to nighttime bags. Disgusting equipment failures.
The Weisner clamp worn 16-20 hours a day solved 99% of my problems. The 1% is I use one pad a day. A small sacrifice.
