What's a good anti inflamation drug (not prednisone) for PMR?

Posted by girastancil @girastancil, Aug 20, 2022

I'm currently on celebrex and want to ask if anyone uses something they may have had more success with. I understand celebrex is safer than ibupropen but have heard there are some "stronger" anti-inflam drugs as safe as celebrex. Please respond. thanks much

@ddr I'm now taking both prednisone and methotrezate. (as of today, 10 mg of prednisone and 7 1/2 methotrexate.) My rheumatologist is hoping the methotrexate will help wean me off the prednisone. I also have osteoporosis. I really have to get off the prednisone for all kinds of reasons--having a huge problem with hair loss is one of them. Good luck as you look for what works best for you!

@sharon5311 After taking Prednisone (and reducing to 7.5mg/day) over a seven month period, I had developed Macular Degeration. So my ophthalmologist suggest I get off of steroids pronto. With my rheumatologist agreement, I gradually (over a month) switched to Hydroxychloroquine (200mg). Then, over the the next twelve months reduced the HCL until my rheumatologist declared the PMR out of my system. So, , , ,HCL definitely worked for me. Just make sure you are not taking ANY type of statin for high cholesterol, as their side effects are identical to Polymyalgia Rheumatica. In fact, I believe Simvastatin was the cause of me getting PMR.
